...high and dry for their big BCS Bowl Game...after coaching them to a perfect season...and saying to myself... WHAT A JERK!!! Couldn't Notre Dame and/or Brian Kelly have the decency & integrity to close out the season...that his players fought so hard for...by coaching one more game...and a big one for that matter...and end the relationship on an honorable note. I lost a TREMENDOUS amount of respect for Coach Kelly when that happened. I completely feel that Notre Dame would of allowed that...since they REALLY wanted him IMO...so I feel that Kelly had the leverage back then to coach one more game (which showed a lot about his lack of character). My point is that I will NEVER mock honor, integrity, and overall decency...sending out a great message to the kids that Ash has coached all year...and sending out a LOUD & CLEAR message to the new kids he will recruit while at Rutgers...and to their parents. Again...all with the bragging rights of coaching (defensively) the National Champion Ohio State Buckeyes. I would be a hypocrite (based on how I felt about Brian Kelly way back when) to not completely respect Chris Ash's decision. All IMHO...of course. To those that disagree...I can understand the frustration...but this is how I feel.

GO RU!!!!!!!!!

Meanwhile U NC, a respected University , won many National titles (Basketball) w decades of phony classes and tests done by 'tutors'. Auburn won a NC by paying Cam Newton to come.

Meanwhile RU is worried about the 'Dead Period" and hurting feelings by having our coach start now , UN like Babers at Syracuse and Durkin at Maryland.

Until RU becomes Serious about winning, RU won't win.

Don't you think kids want to know who they will be playing for? Ash has a staff to evaluate and assistants to hire. That to me is the issue because it creates a gap.

My only thought is that the 2 year commitment to Meyer included the bowl season and Ash wants to honor that.

I think your points are well-taken, Knightmare, but I also think the situation is somewhat different here in that Ash is a cog in a wheel, maybe a big cog, but a cog nonetheless. I think it is good for Ash to know that there are folks upset with this decision. I really hope he is going to knock the press conference out of the park tomorrow and sell any doubters on his vision, and allay fears that his staying with the Bucks until the bowl game won't slow things down. This press conference is the biggest thing in RU sports in all honesty since Schiano was hired. At any rate, it could be.

Abro,

This part has nothing to do specifically on Chris Ash's "will to win" IMO...which I believe will be enormous as it pertains to Rutgers. This can send a great message to the new recruits...and their parents...on his loyalty to them. It's all perspective...and though mine is different...I can appreciate yours.

I think Ash needs to address this head on. He needs to say, "I made a commitment to those young men and I intend to honour that commitment. They deserve no less. At the same time, I will be doing everything I can to get our renewal process underway at Rutgers, and here are a few of the things I'll be doing...."

Roy,

I agree!...and perhaps the end of your reply is what happened. This can be viewed from many directions as it relates to RU Alums/ Students/ Overall Fans. I am just looking at it from a "positive" viewpoint...and how I personally feel...especially since it is what it is.

HUGE difference between a head coach leaving an undefeated team to their very first BCS bowl game and an "co-assistant" coach leaving to take his first head coaching job ever....

SkilletHead,

I think Chris Ash DEFINITELY should see "The Passion" of RU Alums, Students, and Overall Fans alike...and know that our expectations are HIGH...and that we will hold him accountable. That being said, I feel good that there is a righteous reason why all of this is happening... and perhaps that is explained at the press conference...and he "knocks it dead"...in a positive way!

Upgrading from Cincy to ND, he probably left his stuff in his office and abandoned his house. From OSU AD to Rutgers HC. I don't think you skip tying up lose ends.

Relax fellas, when the final chapter of the Ash at RU book is written this won't even be in the book.

The Passion of RU Alums? These are the folks that don't donate to the school and elect a hostile administration to Trenton every couple of years? High expectations? Half of you wanted Schiano back. You're confusing your alma mater and football program with some other one.

Perhaps you're correct RUfromSoCal...but I still feel the way I do...head coach or co-assistant. To me "You're part of a team/ commitment"...and it says a lot about your integrity and character. Again...IMO.

Didn't Bill O'Brien stay with the Patriots until their season was over after he was named the HC at Pedd State? I thought that was particularly impressive how he was able to fulfill both sets of responsibilities, given how demainding Bill Belichick is.

I hear you - and I'm trying to see it that way.

and, heck- maybe tomorrow we hear it isn't even correct.

And maybe I'm just haunted by the past - but, from here looking in - it just seems tone deaf to the challenge.

RUScrew,

As a 20 + year Football Season Ticket Holder... who IS PASSIONATE, DOES DONATE, AND ALWAYS HAS HIGH EXPECTATIONS...and knows MANY who do and feel this way...perhaps I am talking about them...and me for that matter. Peace!

OSU is not in a playoff game or the Rose Bowl.. He should be allowed to take a week, what is typical game prep time, for the bowl game... The rest should be Rutgers time. Booth sides make concessions. Hell.. Maybe Ash can invite his recruiting targets to OSUs bowl.. Let's OSU pay for it.

We are all in this together RUfromSoCal. God knows the torture we have been through...so I don't blame you for feeling the way you do. Let's see what this coming week holds.

Someone is a REALLY big fan of the ellipsis.

OSU loses boat loads of coaches at the ends of seasons.
I'm 100% sure OSU's coaching contracts will be stricter in that area than other teams

I'm 99% certain that this has nothing to do with the terms and conditions of Chris Ash's employment contract with The Ohio State University.

SanFranRutgers,

One never knows what is involved in this complex equation within a contract. So perhaps you are correct...or perhaps not. What Saran said (IMO) makes sense...especially if you are at a lower level than head coach...and thus the leverage in your contract is much less IMO. I do appreciate the input...so thanks!
