He is eligible if it is season ending. He played in no more than 4 games (30% of 12 = 3.6 and any fraction is rounded up, so he could not have played in more than 4 games)...a criteria he satisfies as well as it happened in first half of season (another requirement).No difference between 3 or 4 games. Either way he must apply for a medical redshirt, and would likely get it if it could be established that the injury incapacitates him for the rest of the season.
If he's out for the year. Do you really think he would risk another injury next year coming back? Hell no. He's going to the league to get paid.
