So clearly whoever leaked this to the press was looking to cause a distraction and put pressure on Flood and the football program.

It is safe to assume that whoever leaked this story is not a friend of Flood and the football program.

Either the email contains damning evidence against Flood or it doesn't.

If the email does not contain damning evidence and exonerates Flood from any wrongdoing, except perhaps (although not definitively) bad judgment, and I wanted to hurt Flood, I wouldn't leak the email as to create as much innuendo and speculation as possible...maximizing the damage.

If the email does contains damning evidence and shows Flood looking to influence grades in an inappropriate manner, and I wanted to hurt Flood, I would leak the email as to create as much damage as possible.

Therefore...the fact that the email wasn't leaked tells me that it does not show Flood in a particularly negative light.
