Saw article on NJ online. Won't link because of the faction who hate the SL.

But if St. Anthony's folds imo we would he fools to let any other college offer him a position (see Chris Partridge / the damage we've incurred since he landed at Michigan).

Interesting - but at age 69 ... with one son as head coach at Arizona State and the other at Rhode Island - somehow figure that retirement or assisting one of his sons would be more likely than climbing on board with RU.

If he hasn't taken it when he had several opportunities to take the position, he never will.

Oh, for f---'s sake.

I like the current staff. He can go to help one of his sons. He never did much for RU for over 40 years. We only had a backup guard (Dixon) I think in the late 70's and Mike Rosario. I don't really count Myles Mack as he played I think at Paterson Catholic for 3 years. He only went to St. Anthony for his senior year after Paterson Catholic closed. I don't feel like he really ever encouraged his players to consider RU.

Maybe if we paid him/ treated him with respect (not saying we never did)....he could lead elite players from NJ to the banks.

Just wondering.

If we paid him? I'll have to double check, but I'm pretty sure that there are rules against college programs paying HS coaches to steer players their way.

As far as treating him with respect, I'm not sure how Rutgers has been disrespectful. In fact, I think over the years Rutgers has performed anilingus on him without getting anything in return.

Don't see Hurley coming here as an asst. - I think he would view at as a step down not to mention he would most likely have a lot better options to be the big cheese or help his kids.

As a coach!~

Coaching staff's change. At some point some college will want Knight...and when he leaves we'll need a recruiter with a wide net.

ha. he is not coming to Rutgers.

If he goes the college route I can see maybe St Peters in Jersey City or FDU Teaneck for a few years. My guess would be St Peters.

Damn, this crap happens almost as much as Schiano does on the football board. At least he worked here.

Please just stop. For the sake of all that is good in the world. He can retire to sunny Arizona with his son, and you think, at his age, he wants to come here?

And again, why would we want him? Sure, he's a legend. But we're on a very good path without him and I see no reason to screw it up.

We are improving little by little. Our staff deserves the props. If we added Hurley and we continued to improve I assume some would probably said it was because of Hurley. He is a great coach but I don't see where he has help us over the last 40 years. I say let him go to assist one of his sons. Pikiell, Hobbs, Young & Knight are doing just fine. They are out recruiting just about every day that we do not have a game. They are determined.

IN the post article, Hurley doesn't even get a salary and his speakin engagement money goes to the school.

He has been a great high school coach for a long time. But, over all those years, how many of his star players ended up at Rutgers? And his son tuned down an opportunity at Rutgers how many times? And the way he turned us down was somewhat embarrassing.
I like our current coaching staff. Move on.

why on both counts?
As stated, he has plenty of oppty to help his kids at ASU/RI. And what would he want with an asst position?
Second, the best reason to have a relationship with him is to have a relationship with St Anthony's and the kids coming out to college

I'm sick of the Hurleys. What did he ever do for Rutgers even when we were good? If he came here he'd probably just sit on his butt collecting a paycheck and count it as a semi-retirement gig, kind of what I sadly feel like Eddie did to us.

If St. Anthony's closes Bob in all likliehood retires.
He's not going to want to go on the road recruiting. The only thing that might interest him is some sort of advisory position where he can still go on the court occasionally.
Also as insecure as coaching at this level is what coach wants a guy from the Hall of Fame next to him on his bench always being talked about as a possible replacement for you. The only coaches like that are at URI and ASU.
