Ignore NJ.Com, read a real football reporter

Outstanding, fair and balanced analysis.

Interesting comment on Defensive Line:

Other than Hamilton – an All-Big Ten selection – and Mera – who has made 26 straight starts – the phrase to describe the defensive line is “untapped potential.”

And on Secondary:
Either Flood has a lot of confidence in Wharton and Austin or he just likes to gamble. The most experienced cornerbacks on the active roster (Cioffi, Stephenson) both are playing safety despite other depth there in the form of the veteran Jacobs, the highly regarded Miami transfer Hester and the spring’s Most Improved Defensive Player in Hampton.

Knightfan-
We are around the same age, isn't amazing how the Bible of all things sport has regressed to such depths?
Think about it buddy, reading "the ledger" back in those days was ceremonious

Thanks for the link, Knightfan. Solid writer in Dunleavy and a great RU info source in APP.

I'm Larry's age and yes I certainly remember. They were the gold standard of sports reporting from Izenberg to Dorfman to the Kleins. You looked forward to every morning reading about your favorite team from the pros all the way down to high school. More recent some here may not be aware that Tom Luicci was considered one of, if not the best, college sports writer in the country. His week in review was quoted all over the country.

When I lived in Missouri (pre internet) my parents would mail me a months worth of Sunday sport sections or any article my Dad would know I'd be interested in. Maybe I'd even read about the exploits of a young high school phenom from Montclair:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Now they are a shell of what they were and try to make up for it with sensationalizing stories with no regard to integrity imo.

Like you Knightfan, my mother sent me the Sunday Ledger religiously while I was in Pittsburgh . That's how important that paper was to me as a kid.
Quite frankly, it was the best sport page in the country…IMO.

I'm probably younger than zap and knightfan, but I remember from when I was about 7 to about 17, in the mid 70's to mid 80's religiously poring over the Sunday sports section, especially the baseball statistics. I recall being able to recite the top 10 hitters on Batting average, home runs and RBIs. I know this stuff is available over the internet, but the point is that this was the ONLY thing to read in the summer, and there wasn't the distraction of the internet, video games, minecraft, etc.

We need more articles like this covering RU. Get straight to the point and offer insight with useful info. Stop giving us that recycled garbage and making 10 articles out of 1 line.

Two key words you used and all most of us are asking for....Fair and Balanced. Not fluff, not rah-rah, but not an attempt to create controversy either.

Good job Shift.

Bill O'Reilly says (or used to say) he is "fair and balanced".

Dunleavy is good. But Edelson at the APP/HNT seems to like to jump in when there is blood in the water and write hatchet pieces.

I'd rather give you the credit. Find O'Reilly interesting and some times correct but.......

Used to watch O'Reilly every night. I can't take any of the news channels any more. It's either right wing or left wing blather. I like the news to be like the story linked in this thread--report the facts, maybe give an interesting slant, but let the reader draw their own conclusions.
