that come with Laviano throwing the ball downfield, every other pass. Not Caroo bombs but Cook like, 20-30 yarders on deep outs and deeper seam routes.
Watched the game again last night and it does look to me, having seen Laviano make a total of five passes downfield now, that he does in fact have a good enough arm to make the throws.
It's at the point where he looks real comfortable and is quite adept at throwing the underneath stuff. That's good, you need to be able to do that.
Next step in the development is mastering the deeper routes. He has to go out there and make mistakes, if necessary.
Because as it stands now, we will not have a winning season as long as he's the QB. Yes, the MSU game was close on the scoreboard but they had a dropped TD pass and a spectacular int by Hester on a rare mistake by Cook. And as close as the game was in the trenches, if those two things go the other way, that game is over early in the 3rd. Our offense had the benefit of the James run. Otherwise, it's a typical ball control night, two td drives and a field goal drive...17 points..not going to beat many teams.
Difference is in the length of the passes they were throwing vs. us. As a pro style offense, you HAVE to be able to do that. If they want Laviano in there then he needs to do that, int's be damned. We're not going anywhere this year, so push the kid off the edge and see what happens.
