Paul and Caleb getting hurt is really effing up this season. We were going to be good this year based on elite defense and being in total synch with each other as a unit. We don’t have any alphas on offense that can carry us. This was always going to be a whole greater than sum of the parts type season and this is a big setback. Now whenever Caleb gets back he’ll be rusty and there will be an adjustment period. Paul’s shoulder injury seems like it’s going to be one of those lingering things.

Hope I’m wrong. Only bright side is Simpson being forced into action will hopefully accelerate his growth.

Reiber’s total absence is also disappointing

We’re 3-1 without Caleb. We’re 0-1 without BOTH Paul and Caleb for a single game. Both are (apparently) 100% expected back soon. Maybe you’re a little too upset about 1 loss?

I've had shoulder injuries. I saw his body language. You don't need to be a physician to have common sense
Thank you so very much for confirming that you are neither a physician nor, and let alone, Paul’s physician.

First off neither you nor I have any idea of the exact injury. Secondly, neither you nor I have any idea the severity of Syd injury. Finally, and I think he will agree, everybody heals differently.

There's no reason to believe that this injury will plague Mulcahy all year, but also no reason to believe that he'll ever get back to 100% this season either.

It's all speculation.

But from past experience watching college basketball, injuries sustained during the season that require multiple games off the court usually have a longer-term impact.

Really hoping for the best.

Exactly. I’m not making any crazy predictions this early but just noting that these injuries to our 2 veteran leaders is significant adversity and I think this board has been downplaying too much

I'm a PT and shoulder subluxations can absolutely be chronic if not managed the right way.

I’d bet RU physicians, PT, trainers are all top notch and will manage it just fine.

You can have the best physicians/therapists/trainers in the world, but it won't change the nature of the injury. If it's something he can come back from quickly, they'll get him back on the floor quickly.... if it's an injury that will linger, it will linger and they'll mitigate the effects of it as much as possible.

They're health care professionals, not clerics from D&D - they can't just magically heal him.

Never said that. They’ll manage it correctly is what I said.

I’m more hopeful that Caleb’s injury won’t be nagging. More time to get the green light on a knee injury is often not about lingering pain but about reducing the risk for inflicting more serious damage. High levels of activity on a minor knee injury that isn’t fully healed put a player at much higher risk of serious injury.

In Paul’s case - the outcome will probably be what it will be. If it’s true that his shoulder “keeps popping out” as Carino said, he’s likely going to end up getting the surgery after the season. That probably is doesn’t change whether he plays now or in 3 weeks time.

Injury early in the season that force younger guys into playing time can benefit the team down the stretch. Allows them to grow up early and can use them to spell starters for more rest as season gets into a grind

This season is turning ugly with key players injured.

The younger guys are not going to carry this team this year.

Get ready for a very disappointing year.

Turning ugly? We lost by 6 to a team with decent talent after nearly getting them to blow a 20 point second half lead. If we lost by 20, that would be ugly.

Paul has been giving teammates major hugs on the sidelines with both arms together, separately, without hesitation and vigorously, tonight.

Paul should be back for Miami game. If he’s not, then it’s time to worry. The injury will linger him the whole season.

Unfortunately, managing it correctly doesn’t mean he won’t miss a lot of time. More concerned about Paul than Caleb given the nature of the injury. With Caleb I think Pike is going to hold him out one more game and then he’ll play against Miami so he has a game in before our first conference game.

Caleb’s injury sounds like the doctors taking a CYA approach. If you fall on a shaky knee that isn’t stable that can set you back months and months. I’d think Pike would want to get him a tune up before Miami so maybe CC. It didn’t make sense to throw him in for Rider. A lot of time between then and the next game.

If Caleb was in fact scoped.
When he’s ready he should be full go without worrying about Re injury

My cousin is a vetrinarian, so I think that more than qualifies me to comment on Paul's injury. I would prescribe two more weeks of rest. Followed by taking him on some light walks around the neighborhood before he gets back up to full speed.
