Interesting article on the Alabama basketball situation

If it were Alabama football and the QB and not basketball, the coach doesn't even need to involve the President, right? The kid plays.

Yep different hierarchy for football. It stops with Saban. All this is cover. Plausible deniability for all involved.

It is only being argued that it wasn’t worth it because they lost . If they were in the final 4, this question wouldn’t be raised
I think it would be raised eventually, but their fans wouldn’t care unless the NC was vacated somehow.

In my book Alabama athletics and the administration join psu on the Mt Rushmore of scumdom for putting Athletics over human dignity with how their Athletic leaders, their school administrators, and sadly their athletics first communities and fan bases responded to their respective tragedies.

Sure, the adults were focused more on glory rather than tragedy. My point from the beginning was/is the cops didn’t let the guy off from a capital murder charge because of his basketball prowess. Instead, they just didn’t have a prosecutable case. No one gets off on murder in 2023, not even in Alabama.

Nobody cares about vacated wins or titles . Those games happened and winners were crowned.
Look at pitino . That louisville NC was supposedly vacated but no one mentions it and he still gets credit for it

The crazy thing is AL .com actually publishing a piece that paints Bama sports in a negative light. They’re always the example people use as the opposite to their sister paper NJ .com and their endless RU sports hit pieces. Surprised this one was let across the desk in Alabama

The writer has an undergraduate journalism degree from UAB and was the editor-in-chief of the student newspaper and wrote the book "We Want Bama." The difference with this story is that it wasn't about some recruiting issue or finance problem. It is about a moral issue, and I think that the author nails it.

In addition, at some point as a journalist, the story is so compelling that you have to cover it. Consider this excerpt from the article:

"The choice to play Miller was a group decision that included the president of the university, Stuart Bell. Later, Oats also said the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees was involved. When everyone makes a decision, is anyone really making a decision at all?"

Wow.

I think it would still be raised…. Perhaps some disagree but this would not be the way I’d want to win regardless of how far the team went. A player on their team murdered someone. Their star player avoided legal charges but brought the gun that was used in the murder to the scene.
This isn’t JY screening positive for weed. It’s a horrible look for their program.

That's why it was so enjoyable for me when they lost.

Not really related but people are always talking about moving to NC, SC, Virginia and Florida. Have you ever heard anyone say "honey, let's move to Alabama?"

Yes, I have some great stories from the Birmingham Bowl. It's definitely a different culture than the Northeast.

How did Alabama MBB get so good so fast? Last year they lost to First Four Notre Dame in the first round, 78-64. The same Notre Dame team that took 3 OT's to beat Rutgers in Dayton. This year Alabama is the overall #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

I was at that game vs Notre Dame (shoulda been Rutgers)..
Alabama did not look good at all. Their fans were already talking about football season.

Alabama just put themselves in the category of winning is worth more than doing the right think .
Doing the right thing is secondary for some schools when winning is at stake.
Alabama just put winning over everything else when it comes to showing the world what goals it sets for its athletes to live by .

Actually no, Saban threw shade directed toward Nate Oates when he kicked Tony Mitchel off the team for marijuana possession and driving 140 mph to evade cops. It's not like Mitchel handed over the murder weapon to the killer at 2am the night and place of the murder.
