Interesting Early Stats

Our rebounding numbers are inflated because our players miss so many shots. The FG% defense is because we played a handful of teams somehow even worse than us at shooting.

We're an extremely good offensive rebounding and a very good defensive team. That top-5 stuff is a mirage however.

I know what the metrics say about our SOS but 1/3rd of our schedule has been v. FSU, @Minny, MSU and SHU. Those defense and rebounding numbers are starting to mean something. Second year in a row that’s a strength. That is how you know we are well coached.

You're both right. Our stats ARE amplified by the cupcake schedule, but we did play very good defense, and rebounded pretty well, against FSU, MSU, and SHU. We held SHU to 65 points, which was 17 points below their season average.

So despite the stats being inflated by our generally poor opponents, we are proving ourselves to be a very good rebounding and defensive team, as evidenced against the few tougher opponents we have faced.

If I am not mistaken, I read that we are close to the top in percentage of our missed shots resulting in offensive rebounds.

Yes, lets not give our team any credit.

Raw numbers are raw numbers.

These numbers are NOT adjusted for SOS

8th in country in OREB % 38.0% when we shoot and miss we get 38% of our misses
137th in country in DREB% 72% when our opponent misses we get the rebound 72%

We are doing a helluva job. It takes heart and desire to rebound and we have a ton of it. When the shooters start arriving next year this team will do some significant damage.

We used to miss alot of shots, AND not get the offensive rebounds. I'll take the current situation any day. These guys work their butts off for rebounds.

Plus we held Michigan State to 62 points, their lowest total of the year. Excluding the Rutgers game, they're averaging 84.8 points a game, so we held them 22.8 points under their avg. Our defense is pretty good and don't want to hear Michigan State had a bad night, didn't play their normal lineup blah blah blah. For 35 minutes, Rutgers made them feel uncomfortable to the point of pulling out starters because they were under performing caused by Rutgers defense.
