Attended the UCLA - Az game in new Pauley last night. Besides a great game, learned that UCLA does not currently have, and has never had, a basketball practice facility.

Fortunately for them, one is currently under construction and almost finished. Thanks go to a very major donor who has donated a music facility to UCLA in the past. One of the king pins of the rock music business. The final major contribution came from Russell Westbrook who gave the largest donation of any of UCLA's many NBA alums and is having the floor in the practice facility named after him.

What is interesting about RW is that he was a one and one at UCLA. He does have strong ties through his parents, however.

This is the type of support that RU needs but does not get. Maybe someone loyal to RU will win the powerball. How about me?

That was a GREAT game last night! Pauley looked and sounded impressive on TV. Great comeback by Arizona and a heck of a buzzer beater by the Alford kid. Would be nice to have that RACmosphere return someday soon!

I've been to Pauley Pavilion but not to a game. How much does it hold? I know it's not much.

Westbrook was not a one and done player. He actually played 2 years and really did not play much his freshman year. He only averaged about 3 points a game that year.

I'm curious how nice Pauley Pavilion is now after the renovation. When we played there when I was a manager my junior year(James Bailey and Abdel Anderson's senior year), I wouldn't call it a "dump", but it really was nothing special at all. Same thing with Cameron down at Duke. I bet if every one of our fans went to both places in the 80's and 90's, they would have said that the reputation of both far exceeds the actual buildings.

Best of Luck,
Groz

UCLA generally hires good coaches. That is this difference.

Look at USC as the opposite. Exceptional facilities and can't hire a good coach.

Actually, Groz is correct, RW was at UCLA for 2 years. Last night was Russell Westbrook night at the game (glasses and posters) and everyone was talking about him being one and done. How soon they forget. They were also saying how amazed everyone was that he was a top 5 pick in the NBA draft.

Even though there were really a lot of AZ fans at the game (very loud) there were a lot of empty seats. Presumably because of the 6 o'clock start.

The new arena is beautiful. It used to have an out door concourse (food stands, etc.) that is now enclosed. They also excavated under the original floor level and there is a club for major donors there, locker rooms, etc.

Another thing not expected about UCLA because it is located in LA (although one of the best parts) is how beautiful the campus is. My daughter, who grew up in NJ (until 15) and spent much time at RU and saw many other eastern schools is a UCLA alum and employee. Last night walking across the campus to the game, she remarked how much the campus reminded her of an east coast college.

I may be mistaken, but that donor was none other than David Geffen who never even went to UCLA or college for that matter.

My sister is a UCLA grad and booster. The renovated PP is much, much nicer than the old. The new practice facility should help a lot. Alford has a great class coming in next year. Appears the Bruins are close to being back.

This year they are only 10-6, but have wins at Gonzaga, Kentucky and now Arizona. Very up and down team.

You are mistaken. The donor is Mo Austin. I am told his then minor recording label picked the Eagles followed by many others.

Okay. Thanks. I know that Geffen has given over $200 million to UCLA.

LOL, Alford is a horrible coach (not to mention a scumbag as a human being) and you will never get anywhere with him in charge.

Still think paying to play is more important than coaching. Sure Wooden was a great coach but he had Papa Sam buying him the best talent available.

Sweet 16 every year is extremely impressive when some thought they should not have even made the tourney last year. Usual East coast bias.

Well, to be perfectly fair, they should have lost in the 1st round if not for one of the worst calls in history.
