"Penn State doesn't have rivalries," Lucas said. "We're rivals with ourselves. We want to be like the old Penn State teams. We don't care about Rutgers, Michigan State, Ohio State, Maryland. We don't care about anybody else in the Big Ten but ourselves. We care about tradition. That's it."

This from a team that finished 2-6 in the Big Ten and just lost to Temple? Yep rely on tradition. Your present sucks.

Rutgers doesn't want to be your rival. We just want to kick the crap out of you at every opportunity.

Urban Meyer collapses on hearing that ttfp doesn't care about his program.

I agree with him. None of the B1G schools are traditional rivals of Penn State. Maryland comes the closest, but they were always a punching bag for Paterno. I never considered us a rival of Penn State, we were always a wannabe rival, maybe if we win some of these games we will become an actual rival. Penn State's rival is Pitt, that's it.

Syracuse is all about tradition too. Living in the past glories. Until they needed to unretire #44 to secure a recruit.

Now that the recruit has retracted his commitment, do they now retire the unretirement?

I think PSU is a hopeful rival of the older set who grew up in NJ.

Personally speaking, I would much rather have a rivalry with OSU/Michigan/Michigan St. They are the best programs in the conference and typically always will be.

The PITT ship has sailed and we aren't looking back. Oddly enough, I never thought OSU considered us a rival but their posters said otherwise. Personally, I think RU could be a rival because of location, recruiting, importance of NJ for both schools and a passionate RU fanbase. IMO, MD doesn't give a shet about football and I don't see them as a rival. The big question is whether RU will pony up to give themselves a shot at being a legit program.

Don't worry about Penn State. Penn State got to worry about paying 4.5million for a head coach and being consistently 4th or 5th in the Big TEN east. Their fans know they have the wrong coach for the future same as Rutgers fans. Maybe 15-20% still really believe in Franklin. At least we only paid less than a million. The longer they keep Franklin, the more problems they will encounter. Base on what I saw from Michigan they will be back.

there ya go...nothing to worry about.

We got the wrong coach, you guys got the right coach......it's like Christmas in Piscataway.

What he meant is - we stopped playing our real rivals (Pitt), our new rivals (OSU) dont care about us because they have dominated us, and RU is too new for us to stoop down to having a rivalry with yet.

The last sentence is the truth.

Mangiro said the same thing a few weeks ago, it's part of Frankliar's kool-aid.

A few more arrests at RU and we'd be big rivals. Will the real State Penn please step up!!!

this. and PSU has no idea what they have in Franklin, its still too early in his regime.
You haven't been on the BWI board. Most don't believe he's the one and the balance are blaming Hackenberg.

I know Flood won't make it in the long run but Franklin won't either. The longer both teams keep their coaches, the longer it will take to get better.

oh no ive dropped by there after two saturdays ago loss, i saw the sky is falling crowd, but dave i think you would admit (and maybe one of the PSU guys can comment) that is a small percentage of the fanbase on that board. you also would agree two years for a college FOOTBALL coach is not enough time, esp when hes recruiting like he is (based on all the services rankings which, i will admit, mean squat to me because its about player development for me). college basketball coach, eh, three years i would say. football you need four years to have your crop of recruits.

No, if you know football, you know he's not the coach to get you back to battling Mich, MICH State or Ohio State. If Hackenberg is a NFL QB, then he needs to be able to use him and not use the OL as an excuse. I knew Flood wasn't the one third game of his first season, cancelled my season tickets a year later. I see Harbaugh in his first game and knows that he getting them better.

All that talk is coming from their current head coach and the players are just repeating what he tells them.

The fanbases and the games decide who is whose's rival.

Pitt used to be Penn State rival the way that Princeton used to be ours, those ships have sailed.

It is time to create new rivalries. But this will take time. Sometimes it comes from places you never thought about.

Think about this, if we beat Michigan again this year, that can end up being a rival of all schools! So you never know.

guys.. CJF will be given TIME.. he has RESOURCES... and has SPEED and STUDS pouring in. I feel great about the Nits, I hope you feel great about RU. The big teams in the BIG are PSU, tOSU, and MICH.. MSU has had a nice run, but their record is abysmal vs. PSU and tOSU over the last 15 years. MSU will have a much tougher time once PSU and UM are back up to speed, the will remain good as Dantonio can coach. But Dantonio already has health issues and he won't be around to match up with CJF, Urbs, and Harbaugh much longer.

PSU has 71 frosh, rs frosh, and sophs. Many starters will lose their jobs as the kids on the bench are simply better.. and many better ones are on the way. I'm ecstatic to see PSU paly in DC and New York again.. as are UM and tOSU fans.. The addition of RU and UMD will help our respective schools, but help PSU/UM/tOSU even more.

You should enjoy your time in the BIG.. PSU fans in particular will love making shorter drives on game day (DC/RU) than they often do for home games. I'm glad you're in the league, it's very convenient. I would prefer to play the game in Giants stadium.. much bigger/swankier atmosphere with more seats..more seats even more PSU fans for Rutgers home games.-sg

It's amazing how the coaches make that much of a difference but Ohio State went down a notch when Tressel left as Ohio State coach. This allows some of the other Big Ten Teams win, Penn State , Michigan State and Illinois to win. Same as when Michigan was wandering in the desert searching for the right coach, RR and Hoke, not being the answer. Meyer is definitely the real deal and I'm pretty sure Harbaugh is the real deal.

FTTFP, but right now RU really hasn't nothing to crow about.
As for both schools HCs , you can say neither school's fans can claim to have a better one
and the salaries F&F are making shouldn't be part of how good a HC they are.
( to be fair) Franklin does have a commanding lead when it comes to who is the better recruiter.
Coaching ability it's a toss-up ( at the end of last season would have given Flood the edge, but that's past)

You think much too highly of your school and coach.

I don't know.. one of the 10 winningest schools of all time.. I've been watching them for over 30 years. I apologize for not being in the top 7 LOL. Funny I did not see RU on the list--Is my link wrong? Maybe we should base this on stadium size or MNCs? Please point out where PSU is garbage. Thanks in advance.-sg

No one is saying your team is garbage. I'm saying that Franklin not going to get you to the promised land-Top 3 of the Big Ten East.

I hate seeing PSU fans on our board. When their players and fans talk about traditions it makes my skin crawl. I feel like I need a shower after seeing their posts and avatars.

Are you a Penn State fan. It now comes out. I never thought Flood could recruit but Franklin can not coach.

I outed two Penn State fans.

This is what I meant when I wrote about fake fans, fans from others schools pretending to be Rutgers fans. They always show their hands at some point.

Nice , can't take that from you Nits.
Your leadership started supporting Penn St football a long long time ago and made it part of the Happy Valley area culture ( mean that in a nice way , not my usual derogatory way ).
Rutgers University's Presidents ( except under McCormick, but not the present one) never fully supported RU's FB program and it shows in the number of victories RU has ( 639) compared to PSU .

So be proud of how you fit in the ranks of winning FB schools, but RU will be catching up little my little, even without the RU Administration supporting its FB program like the PSU administration has for many years.
Because after all those years being totally supported by those who run Penn St, the Nit FB team is about the same as the RU FB team that lacks the support of the RU President and the leaders Rutgers of University..

EDIT: can't knock the size of Beaver Stadium, in 1972 it was expanded to have more seating than Rutger's Stadium has in 2015.

fair enough.. you HAVE to catch up.. you're in a real conference and you get your share of revenue, revenue that you would not even sniff if your conference did not have UM, PSU, and tOSU in it.. You can catch up WITHOUT gaining any ground, ie you don't have to go 0-13 every year.. because in my lifetime RU might be one of the 10 worst major programs over a 40 year period there is. When I grew PSU never even traveled to Piscataway.. it was the Meadowlands or PSU wasn't gonna show. I highly doubt your winning percentage ever climbs above PSU's going foward.

I will caution, you might be in for some very tough times ahead, an inexperienced QB on a thinned out team coupled with very lackluster recruiting over the last 3 years will actually put you behind practically every team in the conference for the next few years. It's one thing to lose some games, but you guys had some REALLY rough outings last year and are probably in for more this year. Feel free to point out where I'm wrong.-sg

You used the word garbage, not me. You also listed your program in the same sentence as those with much more success. You are also failing to recognize that pesky little thing that has and will define your program for the foreseeable future, as much as you don't want to admit.

Glad you supported your position with a link this time unlike your erroneous post about gang member football players from certain schools. The next step is posting a link that actual works. #babysteps

I am a giving guy, so let me help you out. The good news is you are ranked 4th! In the conference

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NCAA_football_teams_by_wins

While you are enthralled with your history, many of us really aren't. I wasn't alive when sock hops were cool and Paterknew was talking about how great "Penn Staters" were going to be. Yea, we played you at the Meadowlands.

Now we play you in conference games. At Rutgers.
Paterknew has passed
Rutgers has won more bowl games this last decade
Temple beat Penn St.

As you can see, things change. Please point out where I am wrong.
