I know some fans thought he might surround himself with experience, but personally I love this approach.

“I want young, energetic guys that are extremely excited and happy to be at Rutgers,” Ash said. “Guys who are motivated and excited to show what they can do in this profession. I want guys whose careers have continually climbed, and they need platforms to show that they are some of the best coaches in the country.”

“I’m really big on staff alignment,” Ash said. “Doing things the way I want them to be done. It’s a lot easier to get younger coaches with less experience to do it my way then for older guys who have had experience and success doing it a certain way. They may come in, and I’m a first-time head coach, and they say, ‘Why should I listen to you? This is how I’ve always done it.’

“Well, I’m not really interested in what you’ve done. I have a vision, I have a plan, and I have a way that I want to do it. It’s easier to get everybody aligned with a younger staff. I’ve really learned that here with Coach Meyer.”
