Interesting Read on Recruiting at Mississippi State

Yeah, just like us, they're not too enamored with their 3 star verbals. Also sounds Mullen is tired of playing The Game down south, or that his bag men aren't up to the SEC standard.

MSU may be the hardest place to recruit and win at in the SEC...when compared to the other schools there...

if you don't want to play the game, and pay uncle monte, rutgers is the perfect place to be!!
Bingo.

We would prefer the higher road at the cost of a few games. Forget bag men -- we don't have the stomach for an "off-the-record" email.

He might miss living in the northeast

How do you think ole Miss jumped into the Top 10 recruiting rankings in the last 3 years? You're not going to convince national level 4 star African-American 17 yr recruits to go to racist Mississippi unless some additional incentives are involved.

Amazing. They don't even care to hide the fact that they cheat. I had never heard the term "informal recruiter" until I read that thread. Unreal.

The same is true at most (but not all) southern and mid-west schools. It is just part of the culture down there. Donors give recruits tons of money just to consider committing. One high rank recruit got into a bidding war with a few sec and acc schools, $500,000 was involved.

Meanwhile in Jersey, we lose our sheet if someone even tweets at a recruit...

This last sentence is spot on! I was on this very board when as a joke I kiddingly begging a recruit who I think ended up at Michigan to come to RU. It was not minutes before I got a stern warning from some other poster that I might be violating NCAA rules! True story.

Don't doubt that there are dealings going on, but at the same time, you don't understand the South. 37% of the population of Mississippi is African American. And well over half of their players are from Mississippi, and almost everyone from the South.

Aren't they the ones who tried to give Cam Newton's father $150k to play there?
