Per Jerry Carino's Twitter:

- At David Cox's Press Conference for becoming HC at URI, he thanked Jamie Dixon for his D1 break and also JT III - but no thanks to Mike Rice who actually elevated Cox to be Associate HC under him.

Is there bad blood between the 2 or simply Cox intentionally omitted Rice given Rice's reputation?

I'm sure the latter.

Also, I hope Rice lands on his feet shortly as I'm sure he learned from his bad behavior because the man can coach.

Carino knows better....truly sad...if anything, Cox snd JTiii didn't end on gteat terms after leaving GTown...I'm 100% certain that URI took into consideration that Cox was in charge here during Rice tenure....it's just another way to drag RU into something that has nothing to do with URI or David Cox....how do i know this is what it looks like...??

Common sense would say to check Mike Rices twitter....you would see the tweet that clearly shows Rice giving congrats to Cox on his hire earlier this week.

And explain why exactly Cox or URi would want to mention anything to do with what happened here....??? He would draw negative attention to his being hired.....??There's no bad blood, just bad tweets and reporting that in some cases (definitely looks like here).attempts to leverage RU into something else.

The congrats tweet was 2 days ago when he was announced...were there any questions from the Rhode Island media, writers, etc about this...??....i seriously doubt it...and why take a shot at Mike Rice or David Cox....Rice is trying to rehab his image and whether he gets another chance somewhere, who knows....Cox is a good guy....

Did Carino mention Martelli Jr landing as an assistant coach somewhere else a couple of years ago or Van Macon being hired as an assistant at St. Louis after leaving RU...??

Cox was named as head coach of a team that just went to the NCAA tournament and was Rice's #1 assistant, was the interim coach when Rice was suspended, RU players actually had a press conference for him almost demanding that he replace Rice, and he was so important that Jordan had to keep him around for a transition year. Carino pointing out that Cox mentioned two other guys he worked for as a lower level assistant but didn't mention Rice is worth noting and that's all that Carino did. Would've been extremely gracious and maybe even courageous of him to mention Rice but certainly understandable why he didn't. Beyond reminding people that he was a witness to Rice's actions for 3 years (or more that that if you consider he secretly recording Murdock), he might actually be bitter toward Rice for potentially damaging his career. There's nothing wrong with Carino pointing out Rice's omission from Cox's thanks. And I'm sure Carino did note when those other guys got assistant (not head) coaching jobs too.

Rice throwing basketball at players I can forgive and say he deserves a second chance. The way he treated and what he said to Biruta and Kone more than crossed my line you can’t return from. I can’t root for him.

After seeing what happens at other programs, please Louisville, Rice should be still around.

Funny Rice got much more out of Biruta than Hurley ever did at Rhode. Food for thought.

Played some pickup ball down at hoops group in Neptune. Rice was coaching an AAU team at the time, one of the younger guys heard him yelling at the team and asked who is that asshole.

Another time me and another guy were waiting for the rest of our crew - we are in our late fifties- he yelled at us to get on the court and loosen up.

And I have friends that are tight with Mike and love him and his family. Some people go watch games at the Hoops group to watch Mike Rice, not the players as the Love him. He's entertaining as hell from what I'm told by non-RU fans.

Agree, typical back-handed approach by the smurf shill Carino
Most importantly, good luck to Cox...hope he does well...deserves the opportunity.
