Imagine if Nova and RU and Pike made a deal that basically allowed Pike to leave no strings attached either side.

I know we should take all of this with many grains of salt. Fans may feel hurt that their dreams of a great season and the expectation that we should make the NCAAs every year.....we have a coach that other organizations want. Our fans forget really fast where we were and where Pike has taken us. Fans act as if Dylan harper and Ace Bailey fell out of the sky and he screwed things up. Pike lifted the program and convinced Ace and Dylan to come here over other programs.
Pike would win at Villanova. He probably would have $18,000,000 per year to spend on players instead of $2,000,000
I’m trying to imagine who within the RU AD would be brokering that deal. Seems like we still have a big empty office.
You can simultaneously believe Pike might work out at Nova AND him leaving right now would be the best thing for Rutgers. Two things can be true

Careful of what you wish for. Are we delusional to think we would turn around and get a better coach than what Villanova was able to get. Do you really think our budget would stay at $4,000,000.
This move would be a change of direction saying money to the basketball program should be allocated to paying players over paying coaches. Not the worst idea.
I would think given Pikiell's contract terms and the buyout AND the changing dynamics of college basketball if Villanova wants Steve Pikiell and Steve Pikiell wants to coach at Villanova the deal is done.

I think he fails at Nova. I also think anyone is better than him as he is just out of his element in 2025.
As for the last point, not sure what the answer is. Seems to be that great coaches still get NIL and players, but programs like Purdue seem to succeed without top prospects. Pike is rare exception of a bad coach who had great players who failed (Indiana has same issue).
I disagree. He is a player’s coach and I think with money he would be dangerous.

This would be a great solution for both Pikes and Rutgers. Especially if he’s not willing to adapt. It would also mean a lost season next year with no AD, but I’m willing to sacrifice one season to get the right guy in the seat for this new era for the long term.

LOL. Boy, let me say this. Pikiell’s agent is a MASTER at getting pikes name out there. Maybe he doesnt realize pat hobbs is no longer here to believe it and tack on 5 more years
He can have all the talent on earth and it would not matter. His lack of offensive acumen will cap his ceiling anywhere he ever coaches
Who would hire a new coach if this scenario played out? Or would they elevate Knight to head coach until a full coaching search could be done next year with an athletic director in place? Crazy hypotheticals to think about. If this scenario played out, we would be awful next year and every player with eligibility would likely hit the portal and we would have a brand new team. Solves $20M Pike problem but would be major setback for basketball program.
I mean to be fair, his name has been out there for Nova since November.

It would likely be Brandin Knight in the interim and new AD will reassess after the 2025-26 season considering a new AD isn't expected until later this year.
What candidates are coming to RU, which is a more challenging league and competition, that are not willing to take on an easier job at Nova??

Fair question and to be honest I have not done a deep dive on coaches as it relates to their contract etc. Dusty May took Michigan from 8 wins to BT champ in one year. It’s possible to have success .
The Pike loyalists throw out his first few years because he had to get his guys. That may be the case for a new coach because the current roster has very little power 4 talent.
I will get back to you with a short list of candidates.

I said it on the paid board, I'll say it again, this, while I don't think likely at all, and despite the anger over this year, this would not be good for RU. No coach with a track record is coming to RU no knowing who they are going to work for.
