RU tells Schiano you're our guy but you have to accept by Tuesday.

Schiano says I'm waiting for Miami.

Tuesday comes and goes, Rutgers floats rumors about Ohio State coordinators and Golden.

Miami takes Richt.

Schiano and Rutgers back to negotiating.

He's got 3 strikes against him! Usc, Ucf & now Miami, I'm sure Virginia will be next! Smh

He wants to be ANYWHERE but here. Eff him.

I'd rather have Darian Barnes be the freaking coach. He led Colts Neck to 3 wins this year.

I can't get over the number of people who are hurt because Schiano is negotiating to his best advantage. Same people who said he BETRAYED us by going to the NFL. It's a job. And he wants to get paid as much as he can. If he agreed to come here when he was still in the running for USC and Miami, he'd be a complete moron and I wouldn't want him here. He's taken his shot at Miami and USC. Rutgers has countered by showing interest in the OSU guys and Golden. It's called negotiation and leverage. Keep your feelings out of it or they'll get hurt.

That's all well and good but he's on to Virginia now.

Hey if he is good for him. If not, I'd still take him in a heartbeat. This whole idea about him disrespecting Rutgers because he's negotiating for other jobs is ludicrous.

I like Greg and think he could do a Great Job here. The reality is that at some point you need to say yes or no and we need to stop chasing someone who thinks we are his fall back. With Miami off the table you are in or out. Not that hard.

Schiano is not coming back as it would be admitting defeat. Imagine if you left your current job for a better job and then got canned because you could not perform to their expectations. Would you actually go back to your old job?? I wouldn't.

Going to any college program is admitting defeat that he could not make it as an NFL coach. I don't think anyone is waiting to give him an NFL job. If you were successful at your old job, and the working conditions had improved (the Big Ten) and they wanted you back? Sure I would. After 2006 he could pick any college job he wanted. He wins at Rutgers again, he'll be in the same spot.

Negotiating to his best advantage?
He's like the prom queen who got rejected by the high school QB (USC), passed on the WR (UCF) to get rejected by the placekicker, and he might not even get a chance with the water boy. He may be sitting home with a box of tissues collecting his last year of Buccaneer money.

Probably some of the same fans that feel betrayed by Schiano , wanted him gone the day before he left.

The best deals are negotiated when both sides are ready to walk away. This looks like Negotiating 101.
Rutgers offers Schiano. Schiano has all the leverage and demands things Rutgers won't give.
Rutgers walks away. Rutgers looks elsewhere. Schiano misses out on Miami. Rutgers has now gained negotiating leverage because Schiano now knows he's not their only choice. Either side walks away this time it's probably over.

Exactly the time that deals get finalized.

Pete Carroll went from being a failure w the Jets and Pats, went back to college and had much success at USC , now a big success w Seattle.

That said, I just get the feeling Schiano doesn't want to come back, maybe the 'been there, done that' syndrome. But if UVa doesn't work out, he's probably looking at being a defensive asst coach in the NFL, and maybe he's not ready to be an assistant again either (the 'been there, done that' thing again).

Give him a day or 2 more, then offer Matt Ruhle, or Bob Diaco. Do not want an unproven Assistant Coach again. They have 'no stain' and will get eaten alive in the recruiting wars.
