Now that would be a nice get. First step getting them in the door. The B1G tourney i think will get a few heads we wouldnt nomrally see atleast giving us a look. Pikes coaching prowess is very evident. Seems like a great guy as well.

Not much in the "ups" department for 6'8" huh? Or does he just not show off in games?

Very nice shot. Seems to know it is going in right when it leaves his hands.

At the present he is a great player. His ceiling is still so high. Give this kid a strength program and you would have a top big ten player in the league.

Like this kid a lot. Similar stroke to Geo, just wish he would eat a little bit more.

Just watching tape posted. With his height and clean shooting mechanics, I think you have a very good player. He is not always extremely fluid, but he possesses the right demeanor about the game. That stroke is high with a smooth finish. You see him and compare him to a player we currently have on our roster and you just hope he has a little bit quicker physical development.

Kid has really nice arc on his shot. Very smoooooooooooothe looking jump shot.

Yes, please.

Massoud is much further along at than Thiam was at the same stage of development. I am a fan of Thiam, but he simply did not have the same level of experience and competition as Massoud at the same age.

The challenge to recruiting Massoud is the academic competition. He is a high academic kid who is receiving legit interest from UVA, Georgetown, Northwestern, Vanderbilt and Stanford. If he is focused on the best academic options and they show serious interest we will have a difficult time competing with those schools.

Then hopefully Myles showed him around

There has to be reasons to leave the area, otherwise of these Stanford NW etc would be in the Final Four every year....its still a coaches, school, environment, location and academic decision....to believe these academic schools (which based on the.comments makes RU look like San Jacinto Junior College), walking in the door taking 3 to 4 Top 100 kids a year, isn't reality....

The comments relate to Massoud alone. Not every recruit. He is a superior student. Tons of kids state they are looking at academics, but we know that is not accurate. In Massoud's case, however, academics will play a significant role in his decision. As far as your comment that the post makes RU look like San Jacinto Juco, you are free to engage in hyperbole. RU is a good school. Academically it is not at the level of schools mentioned that we are going to have to beat for Massoud. I agree that there are a number of factors beyond academics that will play a role in his decision. In this case, however, academic pedigree is extremely important to the recruit.

I didnt say it wasnt a factor...there is an almost backhanded compliment that other schools have a distinct advantage when it's not the case....and then almost implying the player would somehow not be taking academics as seriously if it was a 4 team race with the schools mentioned....trying to almost insulate reasons for the players decision.....are Creighton and others suddenly behind the 8 ball or is it perhaps not the right location etc....

RU has a ton of things going for it....I'm still also stating it's primarily a basketball decision with academics and chance for the next level, media markets that give RU a leg up...

Since I know that it is a serious factor, and that the schools mentioned do have an advantage in this specific recruitment, I can only presume you are speaking in generalities. If you want to convince yourself that Massoud is viewing his decision as primarily a basketball decision you are free to remain ill informed.

As I mentioned in my initial post in this thread, Massoud is legitimately interested in RU. At the same time he is interested in a number of schools - a few of which have a distinct advantage with respect to academic pedigree. All factors will go into the ultimate decision. If you want to blindly state that we are not at a disadvantage with respect to the academic angle be my guest.

It will pivot around the "IFs" -

If he is a straightforward all-around brilliant student and has yet to identify a specific area of study - but has general higher level educational aspirations - and is looking to craft a sparkling CV - then, a yet-to-be-specified major from UVA, Georgetown, Northwestern, Vanderbilt and Stanford may put more sizzle on a resume... but - none of them become an automatic e-z-pass to opportunities - and Rutgers grads do get into premier med schools, law schools, MBA programs etc.

If on the other hand, he has a strong idea regarding his desired area of study - it is possible that a well managed progression through the Rutgers Honors College program could yield exactly what he is seeking. - sometimes highly discerning / highly focused students who have great clarity about their academic path find specific Honors programs to be highly attractive - especially if they perceive that they will get to work closely with faculty members who are well published key opinion leaders in the student's desired field.
