Although it was anything but fun, it was a repeat of history.
Oct 8th was the 100th anniversary plus 1 day of another famous game. Cumberland College (Tenn) vs Ga. Tech.
It seems Cumberland had dropped football, but GT wanted the game to be played or a revenue payback. The real reason as reported was revenge for Cumberland beating GT in baseball 22-0 with alleged pro players. Cumberland managed to get 12-16 frat bros to play the game. (Shades of Animal House)
So the game was played in Atlanta. Cumberland quickly fell behind after fumbling 4 times in a row resulting in GT TDs.
63-0 at the qtr.2nd qtr, more of the same. 126-0 at the half. GT coach (also baseball coach) told his team at halftime, don't get complacent. 2nd half was played with 12 min qtrs which probably didn't matter. Final. GT 222. Cumberland. 0
Some stats: GT. 32. TDs 500+ yds rushing
Cumberland. -42. Rushing
2-18 14 yds. passing (6 int)
Neither team had a 1st down
GT scored on each set of downs, most being 2 plays.
Grantland Rice Wrote: Cumberland's best play was Allen skirting right end for a minus 6 yards.
Cumberland had 15 turnovers

We looked so much better against Michigan. Always a silver lining and hardly anyone remembers that game. Ours will fade too !

The Interwebz will keep our loss alive for a long time. Heck, our own fanbase likes to indulge in the masochism of dredging up old wounds, so these beatings will be remembered more than the media-invisible Cumberland game.

I'm just over 40 and I remember the teams and the 220-0 score from when I was probably 7 or 8 reading Guinness book of world records or something similar.
Soooo, ummm, about that historically bad 78-0 defeat when we didn't get a First down until the 4th quarter .... Ugg, I'll probably never forget it and many casual fans/haters won't forget anytime soon.

You left out the best, more historic aspect of that story. G-Tech's coach was John Heisman, yes the same dude that the Heisman trophy is named after.

It could have been "worst". But it could have been worse. What if they ate bad liver pate for breakfast...

Yes it was him. I guess the choice was either baseball or football and you know which it became.
There was also a side note about how teams received votes by points scored during the season, the more, the better.

It could have been currywurst. Then it would have been delicious.
