Jay Young expected to join staff per Carino

If Young becomes an assistant coach, then one assistant coach position left and one senior adviser position left per Carino. Mentions Knight and Shoes.

Hard to believe that there's still a shot at Knight. Who would be the third assistant, Young or Knight? Can't imagine either would come for that.

What if they are all just equal assistants? What was the salary pool? If they all just receive equal pay, how much would that be?

Young is the #3 assistant. According to Dan on the SHU Rivals site you will shocked at what we are paying Hobbs. (don't want to give away Dan's Premium Board info)

Why? Young is likely very loyal to Pikiell. he has never worked at a high major job; chance to prove himself at highest level. Why would he mind being 3d assistant to 2 guys with much more experience then he has at this level? I would think that if RU can offer Knight a pay raise from Pitt (which we dont know but would have to assume is the case if pursuit is sincere) I would think there is still room to pay Young a bit more then he was making at SB.

Young is coming is a 3 likely because he struck out on the Stony Brook job and he is getting paid well. Still room for Knight. If Knight doesn't pan out it will be Shoes.

Hobbs was making about $300k at UConn. You can do the math!

Knight will want Hobbs money. If we can deliver that is the big question compared to what other schools are offering. Pikiell knows how critical it would be to get Knight aboard.
While I would have loved to have Knight here, Pikiell did a good job nailing these two spots. If Knight passes, we are well set.

I believe that Knight is very close to a done deal. If not however, I do not think shoes will be an assistant. I do see him on staff in some other advisory capacity.

I'm not sure why people are thinking Knight is hung up on the money? He told Pitt he was leaving, but has no other fall back options right now. Who is to say anyone else is offering him more or that he is motivated by more?

Knight was making close to 300k at Pitt also so can only imagine what he's asking for to come to Rutgers which is the ultimate grinder job for an assistant.

Be careful with that - Michigan has open spots, and Nova might as well. Knight is very well thought of. Hope we can pull it off.

Are you saying Knight isn't as in "demand" as we presume he is?

That would be 2 former Associate Head Coaches and a former Head Coach on the Staff. @Russ Wood mentioned how Rutgers should be able to attract a HM staff with the increased salary money available. I think this fits the bill.

Good staff....but, where's the young gun that can easily appeal to 18 young old kids ?

Is this more of a gut feeling on Knight? If not, what are you hearing?

Hobbs is reportedly receiving a base salary of $560,000, don't know the bonus structure.
Hermann worked on a base (2014) of $450,000 and earned a little over $490,000 with bonuses added in for 2014
edit wrong Hobbs my dumb mistake , Hermann's salary doesn't belong in this thread either
Sorry about that and thanks Jelly for pointing it out.

Um ... I think we are talking about Karl Hobbs' salary, not Pat Hobbs' salary. So Herman's salary as a comp is not relevant. I am am pretty sure your post is Pat Hobbs' salary.

RU is a great opportunity for Knight. If things turn around (they will), he will be a rising star in the NCAA and will be able to go right into a much bigger job than has been available to him thus far. I actually think this makes a ton of sense - if Pikiell and Knight get along.

Knight is 34

Cool.....that's young. Been around for a while, I thought he was older. He should be able to put in 3-5 years and then be in line for a Head Coaching job. Assuming he plays an instrumental role in the biggest turnaround in the history of college basketball.

oops my bad :chairshot:, thank you

I really want Knight as a assistant coach at Rutgers far more than Young. At the same time I'm sure he wants to be a head coach ASAP.Choosing a school that will be highly successful ,ie,NCAA Tournaments might be the deciding factor in not choosing Rutgers in addition to salary and job title.

a booster must be throwing some money into this..either way ..we are in the G Damn B10..like Gov Christie said....time for RU to act like we are in B10! next up a damn power five level practice court! ... before the tax credits run out!

RU closing in on Knight..... would be the final step.....times are changing already, this "step-back 3 pointer" would be the trifecta (Young, Knight, Hobbs).....
If this happens, I'll have to perform a self "cup check" with my son's baseball bat, just to make sure I'm not dead or dreaming.

Relax my friend. We're not letting the tax credits run out. This is getting done. All good [cheers]
