It hurts so much to see players we should have Saeed Blacknall and Saquon Barkey balling out in the B10 Champion game. Both of them are light years ahead of any player we have on our team. Considering the mess we are in, it looks like they both made the right decision for themselves. They will both play in the NFL. I think it's going to make recruiting tough when kids turn on the TV and see Jersey guys exploding on a national stage. I love Darius Hamilton and I appreciate everything he's done but would he have been better had he just went to Ohio State? 2 years ago we were as good as Penn State and better than Michigan. That's with Schiano's recruits. Floods recruits set the program back 15 years.

Watching them light it up last night just demonstrates to me that we dont need all the Jersey kids we just need to pick up one from each team that they would normally get and we would be competitive a few key pieces to get us back in the game.

It starts with a guy like Brian Leonard Then you need to find a Ray Rice gem

Think that is happening to some degree with Ash's current recruits it gonna take time.

Gesicki had us in our top 3.
Cabinda.
Adonis Jennings had 100 yards and a td for Temple against ECU last week.

We'll see on signing day but the only thing Ash has done well is recruiting so far. Also, he seems to handle himself with class during press conference. Moreover, there doesn't seem to be discipline problems with the team. The on field result was horrendous though. So far.

Yes, it does hurt seeing some of the Jersey talent playing for other teams. Imagine if we could keep 2/3 of our top talent on the banks. Rutgers would be a perennial top team. I am hoping Coach Ash and the other coaches can start keeping some of that talent home. success breeds success and while the team had a terrible season, I am giving the coaches a pass in this first year. The recruits who signed in February are Floods recruits. It is now up to the coaches to bring in legitimate Div 1 players. I am very hopeful he can do it. Lets see what happens signing day.

After 50 years or so of waiting, I really don't see us getting the NJ cream any time soon. I also don't blame any top kid from choosing an out of state school that, like it or not, just has so much more up side.
Schiano was able to get us on the map (with some creative OOC scheduling) and mostly good recruits. Ash is going to have to take the same trip, which is going to take time, to win in the BIG.

The amount of harm Flood has done to this program is unbelievable. I cannot believe there were people on this board supporting him till the end. He truly did set us back at least 5 years, more likely ten. It's an absolute disgrace. If he was fired a year or two earlier, maybe we'd still have a shot with some of these recruits.

They made the right decision for themselves, but I do have faith in Ash to get it done. Barry Alvarez was 1-10 in his first year at Wisco. But it's going to take a lot of time, and you have Flood to thank for that.

He was an awful coach who was completely in over his head. Absolute disaster in every sense.

We need s spark , a lightning rod , a perfect storm of sorts and something from the gods to get us into the college football place to be. We can hope something exciting happens to our program to change our current path.

That did happen. Penn st had sanctions placed on them (which ended up being a slap on the wrist) and then Kyle Flood was named head coach which drove all of the progress we made right into the ground and any chance to take over penn st in this area was killed.

Seriously, a thread about how recruits/players would be better off elsewhere?

In the unlikely event he's not just complete troll/PSU plant, madchuck should be the next permanent decommit. Take all your visits and GTFO.

NJ kids are probably saying what if Rutgers just invested as much money as PSU and OSU in football then we don't have to leave. It goes both ways. A better offer is a better offer.

If the NCAA really wanted to put sanctions on Penn State, they should have made them take Flood for 5 years.. wouldn't have needed any other actions

Apologies for speaking to an elder like this , but please take that nonsense elsewhere. You don't even know what your favorite program offers a player yet you think other places offer a better situation? Isn't the goal of most players to get a shot at the NFL and graduate ? I think we've already proved that we can place guys in the league and our football academics are second to none

90 posts with many of them about PSU being better than RU - smells a little fishy...

This is very interesting

Skip 80% of the article on Fleek/Shiano and focus on this below in this tread about recruiting.

Oregon is a tough job due to recruiting geography.

The entire state produces an average of just two four- and five-star players on an annual basis. There are 30 or 40 cities that beat that mark.

That means almost all of Oregon’s elite recruits are going to come from out of state, which is always difficult. Nike’s brand, facilities, and flashy uniforms help some, as does the brand of exciting football played by the Ducks. But, geography still trumps in most situations.

Chip Kelly was able to take Oregon’s recruiting from a top-30 level to a top-15 level. Combined with a system that was, at the time, unique, Oregon had a great run.

But recruiting has slipped. Oregon ranks 40th nationally for 2017. And more importantly, sixth in the Pac-12, behind even Oregon State. Oregon has a blue-chip ratio of just 8 percent, compared to its previous rolling four-year average of 33 percent. That is a big drop. USC and Washington are destroying the Ducks on the recruiting trail.

So much for facilities. Its all about fertile recruiting grounds and a COACH.

RU: Has an amazing recruiting ground.
RU: Had GS who got us to at least see the mountain top. We blew it with Flood. Ash has a harder job than GS walked into. Yes, a harder job.
