Jim Harbaugh Press Conference: Rutgers Postgame

You do realize we are the birthplace of college football 😀
YOU do realize that RU invested next to nothing into their college football until Greg 1.0, and even then, the athletics and football haters at RU, in the state and in the press found a way to get Bob Mulcahy fired. Not learning from their, after Greg left, Rutgers did the Rutgers thing, hiring a PC candidate to be the Athletic Director and hiring a head coach who was last man standing and was happily paid peanuts. So playing glorified high school level football until about 2000 doesn't really count for anything.

you nailed this one:Hammer Nails:

I don’t get the Harbaugh hate. Yeah he’s a huge dork but if by some roundabout away he became RU head coach you wouldn’t be ok with that?

what am I missing?
I feel the same way. As a matter of fact, I think he has a certain odd charm...

I mostly agree but the initial investment started late Anderson/Graber days with the original stadium expansion and Hale Center. Mulcahy and Greg kicked it up.

Yeah but they didn’t have a head start, they just did what they had to do. We had the same opportunity but we didnt invest, and compared to the school we are competing against we still aren’t investing. The more things change the more they stay the same.

Harbaugh has only defeated Ohio State one time and his bowl record is not great.

Other than that, he is .744 overall at Michigan and seems to have the program on the rise.

And the investment at Michigan and Ohio State started long before that. Mulcahy was run out of town by a torch-wielding mob for trying to do a fraction of what is done at schools with big time programs.

But only tried big tiome football in the 80s, and only less than half way. GS, a few years into first tenure was really first time trying it.

We are babies at big time fball. Lot of catching up to do.

We are in the best conference. All will be ok as long as we are in the game in the B10.

I could be wrong, but I think he mocked the “fence the garden” thing we did years ago, with some sort of cartoon, depicting his program plucking NJ players

Michigan football has been a blue blood for how long? Much longer than Rutgers began to invest. That is the point. We are 50 plus years behind. The good news is that when most of the people on this board are dead or too old and infirm to go to games, we may have a shot!!!

Those schools realized a long time ago what Big Time athletics ( especially football) can do to elevate the perception of a school. A winning program unites alums of all ages and the whole community.
What did we have here? The RU 100 fighting us every step of the way.
We also still have anti Rutgers Press looking to sling some mud whenever and wherever they can. They were the ones responsible for Mulcahy’s ouster.
Being part of the BIG makes a lot of those conversations go away. Having the income to pay for our Olympic sports makes us less of a target for all the sports detractors.
Today you have a school like Alabama elevating their academic programs because of their success in football. That’s a little know secret, The SEC cares about academics too.

Ok… and? Gosh we’re sensitive.
Fence the garden deserved to be mocked. Think that was the creation of this guy:

All it takes is a few good recruiting classes and NIL dollars well spent and we will kick their ass . Screw the 50 year thing now

Not everyone else’s fault Rutgers admin didn’t do anything for 100 years until 1990s.

The investment for Ohio St. and Michigan football started before Mulcahy was born.

Opposing head coach post game press conference?

I couldn't think of anything less that I'd be interested in watching.
Are people looking for some great insight or something?

Agreed. That is the point. @RUforlife tried to turn my post into something else, which it was not. The point is that RU invested next to nothing in football and athletics generally compared to Michigan and other blue bloods. The facilities and spending paled in comparison.
