Needs to be a full time shot clock in college lax. The GT team is boring as fvck to watch. Goalie is standing on his head though. Ridiculous sequence to end the 3rd.

Exciting finish. GT was completely gassed at the end.

The only change I want with respect to the time clock is for it to start as soon as a flag for a delayed penalty is thrown.

I like the way they do it in the MLL...

  1. MLL uses a 60-second shot clock in order to keep the game fast and exciting for fans and players. The shot clock is reset after a goal is scored, a shot hits the post, is saved by the goalie or there is a change of possession. If the clock runs out, possession is granted to the other team. Teams have 20 seconds to clear the ball across the midfield line.
  2. Because of the shot clock, there is no restraining box to “keep it in” such as in college lacrosse.

Would you add a 2 point line like in the pros?

If anything should be changed, it's the season timeline. Playing in February outside of warm climates does nothing to build fans outside of the diehards. Season should start in first week of March, go until May, have Rivalry Weekend MDW, kind of like how Thanksgiving Weekend is football Rivalry Week in the fall (Hopkins vs Maryland, RU vs PSU, Duke vs UNC, OSU vs Michigan, etc.), then conference tourneys/NCAAs through June. It's stupid that high school plays through mid June and college ends MDW. I think that's the only sport where HS ends after college.

I would. And get rid of face offs.

I agree on face offs, with the exception of the start of each period (unless carryover man up with possession )

I'd also add the 2 point line, but unlike the disparity of the 3 in basketball I'd make the college line further out ( maybe 5 more feet) to lessen its impact.

Im surprised anyone would want to eliminate face offs. Except the fact that we suck beyond comprehension at them i love this aspect of the game

It's just that one aspect of play is such a controlling factor in the outcome of the game. Let's say you have a guy like Baptiste who won face offs at 72% over his career. Now figure on average there's roughly 23 possessions up for grabs. That means Baptiste's team would have 17 chances with the ball compared to just 6 for the opponents. Your odds of winning have just become astronomical based off of one aspect.

+1 in scheduling.

2x a week. Tuesday/Wednesday and another on Saturday.

Play less regular season to keep MDW. 12 regular season games is enough.

12 regular + scrimmages (2?) + conference tournament + NCAAs = more than enough lacrosse.

If you have midweek games you don't need to reduce the number of regular season games. It was SOP in the 70's and the 80's. Also the HS season lasts longer than the NCAA because HS teams are still in classes until late May, early June if not later.

And keep face offs. A goalie can also have a disproportionate impact on a game. It will never happen, but I'd go back to the old rule of allowing the wing middies to hit the FOGO before possession is established.

I too like the idea of having a scrum right after the faceoff whistle.

I think you'll like this anecdote. After college I played club lacrosse in the old USCLA (with no MLL the top club association). For 2 years I faced off with one on my wing middies being Bruce Van Ness, a future member of the RU football HOF and an Honorable Mention AA midfielder as well. Bruce ran around 6'3" and 235 lbs. When he came in from the wing, I could just feel my opponent get nervous.

Yeah i get where you are coming from but 72% doesn't come around every day thats for sure. Plus in a team game i enjoy seeing a little mano y mano competition within the game. To me its the discretionary shot clock that i literally cannot fathom how anyone ever thought that was a good idea on any level. The two point line i dont know what to think but its intriguing

Shot clock has to be a definite. You have to have a way to keep teams from playing ring around the rosie forever.

If you're going to keep face offs, I like @mdk01 idea of going back to the old ways where more players could be involved, instead of the FOGO being off limits. It's a team game not a one on one battle, it should be an all out war for that ball. In a pivotal aspect of the game more players should be allowed to participate. The 2pt. shot is just dumb in my opinion.

There will be a two point line when a shot clock is installed. Teams will just pack in zones the whole time.

Exactly. The toughest thing as a ref is when a team is playing a zone. When to put the stall on. Why punish the offense for the defense packing in a zone. It takes longer and more passes to break down a zone. The only option is a two point line to force the defense to play you just like basketball with a three point line.

Exactly. Shot clock has to be accompanied by a 2pt. line. Only way to prevent defenses from collapsing and forcing low percentage outside shots. It will create a whole new category of specialists though - 2 pt. shooters. Guys who can do nothing but rip rope from the top of the box.

And to think people are complaining about the degree of specialization associated with FOGOs. You may end up with screeners, large, heavily padded and parked in front of the goal crease.

I mean there are already kids who are inside finishers, zone busters etc. My team last year had a kid that was our zone buster. He was a step down shooter from 15 yards and that is what we used him for.

Sports, especially at high levels, create specialization. I think that is a benefit for lacrosse and why kids are flocking to it. You can have wing specialized midfielders who scoop ground balls and get off, man up offensive players, defensive midfielders, step down shooters, inside finishers, FOGOs, man down defensmen etc.

As a HS basketball player, that's exactly what drew me to lacrosse. You don't have to score 5 goals a game to be a good lax player, just like you don't have to score 25 points a game to be a good basketball player.
