Injuries to our bigs definitely is a huge factor. However the recruitment of the 3 Johnson's is really the reason we are in the current mess of getting routinely blown out.

3 very important scholarships and we have only Omari Grier to show for it this year. No doubt we miss Laurent, Freeman, Doorson and Diallo. The loss of those guys wouldn't nearly be as catastrophic if we had more depth and talent at the guard and wing position. Our coaching staff really doesn't currently feel like they have the ability to sit or rest Daniels and Sanders.

I truly think we are getting hurt as much from the lack of back court players (or back courtplay) as we are from our injuries from the bigs.

Nigel Johnson - I think that was about thinking long term and not short term. I don't have an issue with it.

Ryan Johnson - I have no idea why he transferred and have not seen anyone post anything realistic...maybe academic, maybe culture shock coming north...who knows.

Kejuan Johnson - an academic risk that did not make it. That's on Jordan, plus, he chose to go into this year with 1 less recruit.

I have no inside information but I think culture shock may explain Kwe Parker...I have a lot of cousins from his hometown of High Point, NC....when they visited NJ when I was growing up....it was a huge culture shock and they could not wait to get back home to sleepy High Point, NC.

Rivals recruiting analyst Russ Woods mentioned that he did not think Parker was a fit at Rutgers...but, he never said why.

The fit didn't seem that good to me with Kwe Parker because Rutgers needs more than a guard who can jump out of the gym and make spectacular dunks. He doesn't have size at the SG spot, isn't what I'd call a shooter and doesn't have the feel for the game needed to be an effective PG.

Last month I watched his team play Wheeler (Ga). Parker was on the floor for 30 minutes and scored nine points on 11 FG attempts. At times I forgot that he was in the game...until he missed another shot or committed another turnover.

Russ, as always, thanks for your insight.

GRF is right...whiffing on two players who left and then holding back a schollie for a transfer...yes that's a big problem in roster management and directly has impacted this team in light of the injury situation..add that to a few players who don't have the talent to be on the team and that all falls on Eddie

I do not know why Kwe parker decommited, or if he was a good fit here. But I can tell you there should be no culture shock between High Point, NC and New Brunswick. High Point is definitely not sleepy anymore. A suburb for all the cities around it. Winstons-Salem, Greensboro, and the Triad. Lots of Development and plenty of malls, stores, chain eateries, etc on their very busy state highways(OMG do we need another Appleby's in this country!!)

Sure, moving anywhere takes adjustment, but High Point is far from Mayberry RFD, and Kwe Parker not coming here has nothing to do with Culture shock.

JP....when were you in High Point ? I was there for a family reunion several years ago. Yes, the triad is a developmental success story. But, I'm talking about living within the High Point city limits. There is nothing to do there, trust me, we tried to find something to do......lol.

And remember.......a big part of culture shock is about adjusting to the behavior of the people and every time I have been to High Point (about 5 times)...it's a culture shock for a guy born and raised in Jersey.

On that note, Niem Stevenson did drop 37 on Hutch last night on 5 of 8 from 3pt land. Would love to nab him.

His teammate Jalen Johnson committed to Tennessee and so did Kwe shortly afterwards...i agree with Russ, this team needs shooters and Kwe does not fit that bill

Russ, this just makes me question the staff even more. They went all in on Kwe. just another undersized combo guard. Story ofRutgers

Just another excuse. Let's be honest. It wasn't culture shock. He realized RU was a mess and he had better options.

I have been in High Point more than 5 times since June. Not all that much different and more to do than sitting around campus in Piscataway or 80% of NJ suburban towns.

We need to ask Van Macon why he spent 1.5 years recruiting him and why he thought it was a good idea.

Parker picked the better program with more talent around him. That's what a lot of kids do.

Tennessee has great facilities and a chance to dance within next few years. Do we have similar outlook?

While I respect Russ Woods knowledge lets not lose sight that it was his "opinion" that Parker was not a good fit. He suggested that Parker was not the type of player (not a shooter) that Rutgers needed, but, he was just one recruit out of 4 open spots. Certainly, the staff was recruiting other players to fill the shooter roles....like Issa Thiam, who is a very good shooter at 6'9".

BK hinted at the reason for the Parker decommit, but, I would never ask him to divulge inside information.

No one knows on this board, it's all speculation, I speculated because I am very familiar with High Point, NC...just throwing out ideas.

@RU-Choppin-Ohio brings up a good point. If Rutgers was leading for another guard that was a good shooter then Parker looks less like a bad fit.

I think Parker will really be challenged for playing time at Tennessee. Jalen Johnson is a MUCH better option at SG and Tennessee already has the PG they want in Lamonte Turner who is a redshirt this season. Turner can also slide over to SG if needed.
