Great job by Coach working with the AD to create the new Knights of Honor ring. I’ve always thought we needed to do more to honor our program greats.

First class will be
Jordan
Dabney
Bailey

Who else do you think should be included in the next few classes?

I’m mid 30s so I don’t always recall the deep history of the program but Douby and Harper Jr come to mind right away. Don’t think anyone else on the Douby teams will get but it depends on what the program decides the bar is, everyone does it differently and I like that every program puts their own spin on these.

Here are Some guys

1.) abdel anderson
2.) kelvin Troy
3.) Roy hinson
4.) John battle
5.) Kevin black
6.) Eric Riggjbs
7.) Tom savage
8.) Keith hughes
9.) Earl Duncan
10.) Steve Worthy
11.) Damon Santiago
12.) Jamal Phillips
13.) Geoff Billett
14.) Rob Hodgeson
15.) rashod Kent
16.) Jeff Greer
17.) Jerome Coleman
18.) herve Lamizana
19.) Quincy Douby
20.) Myles Mack
21.) Corey sanders
22.) geo baker
23.) Ron Harper Jr
24.) Caleb Maconnell

Hinson and Battle have to be next. Hughes, Douby, Baker and RHJ are probably locks. McConnell, Billet, Savage, Worthy and Sanders are maybes. But it’s tough to say without knowing the criteria that RU came up with.

You could argue that Caleb should be in before Geo and Ron. He is after all a national award winner.

Man the ring of honor would be seriously watered down if Dadika and Billett are serious contenders.

I loved them both and played with and against both of them at various points. Neither would warrant being included via any metric.

Just because you have a ring doesn’t mean you have to include someone every year. Make it truly exclusive! Pretty much what “ring of honor” means.

Dadika I agree with. But Billet was a great player

Rings of honor are usually reserved for all American/multi all league type players or teams that had a storied history. Billet was a good player but not worthy of ring of honor. Those teams were fun to watch but his career record is sub .500.

Ummmm it’s a “Ring of Honor” not a number retirement.

Myles Mack had a damn good career here. Unfortunately his team and coaching staff stunk.
It's the Ring of Honor not the Ring of Pretty Good. You putting Mack in there before Ron and Geo?

This list cannot be taken serious with Douby at 19

Ron and Geo were already mentioned by OP before my post. I was adding to the list.

I’m in my mid 30s. There’s probably only about 6-7 guys that I’ve watched on tv/in person that are worthy, and yes I think Mack is one of them.

Most rings of honor of established programs have less than 10-15 players total. Not sure your using the right criteria if you can name 6-7 from past 30 years (coincided with a long drought in ncaa appearances) that would be on any list.

There are literally 5-10 names that deserve any mention in the history of Rutgers basketball to be included as individuals. 76 team and coaches go in as a collection and maybe 2-3 as individuals.

I guess I’m just not that familiar with the Ring of Honor concept - didn’t realize it was meant to be that selective.

I don't think that is true at all. The ring of honor should honor the best Rutgers players. By your rational even our best ever pale in comparison to the players from UCLA, UNC etc, as do 90% of the schools that play basketball. It is not a national college basketball ROH, it's a Rutgers one. The criteria to retire a number at RU is really high. This is a level below.

Exactly. It should honor Rutgers best. And historically there hasn’t been too many that meet ring of honor criteria. Usually ring of honor are reserved for all American/multiple all conference type players.

Im not comparing to all time nations best but they should be all American type. Rutgers is building something that is improving every year. Why would you include mediocrity from prior years? Doesn’t need to be watered down on inception.

Agreed, @kupuna133. I think I would include guys that are multiple time first team (or a 1st and 2nd team) all conference players. It doesn't need to have specific criteria, but that is the caliber player I would include. It needs to be selective, IMO.
