Knights Under Lights: Bob Lloyd

I saw Lloyd play all 3 of his varsity years. He was the shooting guard. His roommate, Jim Valvano, was the point guard. Scored all of his points over a 3 year period and before the 3 point shot was introduced. Holds the record for most points in a game at 51. Was selected as Rutgers only First Team All-American in 1967. I have watched Rutgers basketball for over 50 years and in my opinion he is Rutgers best outside shooter, sorry Quincy D.

As the article indicates, he was almost automatic from the line.

Good artcile despite this mistake - Lloyd played at the Barn in New Brunswick - not Piscataway!

"Lloyd's legend would crescendo in his final year in Piscataway, pushing his basketball talent to its peak."

He was the greatest! At one point he made something like 90 free throws in a row. I believe it was a record or very close to one.

Who broke Lloyd’s FT percentage record and is still the all time Rutgers FT percentage leader?

Was at MSG when Walt Frazier's Southern Illinois team beat RU 79-70 in the semi-finals of the 1967 NIT. The Sslukis beat Marquette in the final by 15. Bobby Lloyd scored 42 and 44 in the first two NIT games. And that was before the 3-point shot.
Agree with Fatherbill, Bobby was the best outside shooter I have ever seen at Rutgers.

Was a freshman when RU with Lloyd and Valvano went to NIT. Got to MSG for three of the four games. Had to listen on the radio to Southern IL game
