Made the mistake of turning that on for a minute, and then remembered Rutgers fans aren't allowed to enjoy college basketball ever again.

Really is sickeningly sad. How I yearn for games like the Hodgson bloody towel game against SU.

Lots of defense being played.....how many wide open 3 point shots did Oklahoma have? My bad, only Jordan coached teams give up 3 point shots.

update: Oklahoma just hit two wide open 3 point shots to open the 2nd Overtime. Who is their coach....Eddie Jordan.....NO, it's Bill Self and number 1 ranked Kansas.

Sadly we've got a lot bigger issues than incessant wide open 3s.

Oklahoma - 15-31 from 3 point range

Kansas 11-22 from 3 point range.

Who's coaching these teams.....Eddie Jordan?

Only Chopping could ruin this game by bringing up Jordan

I'm just wondering how the top two ranked teams in the Country can give up so many open 3 point shots. Lack of effort ? Poor coaching ? Not practicing how to close out on 3 point shooters?

What do you think?

I don't argue with fools

don't say that....I won't get any sleep tonight. You hurt my feelings.

So, exactly how are you related to Danny Hurley? You and your 117 comments are pushing hard for change. When he gets that 7 year rebuilding contract, how much do you get get, 10% ?

My guess, you are Danny Hurley's agent. Just started posting here to drum up negative sentiment against the current coach to get your guy another shot at that 7 year deal...smart move......lol

haha yes its pretty tough to watch real basketball, it just makes me depressed at our situation
Agree with you and Frank. Our long-term situation has really drained every last bit of enthusiasm I have for college basketball. This was the first sport I every followed and loved to watch. I caught the end of this though and it was a tremendous game. It's just hard to watch when you see that we are so far away from being competitive.

The difference is these teams have players who can make open 3 point shots and every other kind of shot .Talent and coaching matter and that is lacking at Rutgers.

No!
You are wrong!
Coaching does not matter.

Only facilities!
Because good facilities brings in good players, and good players play good.

Nevermind about developing players once they get here.
We want them to be good BEFORE they get here.
That way, we don't have to develop them.

Silly you!

Way to stay on topic. We are talking about the defense played in last nights game. The OP started the thread to praise the great game. I watched the game and I saw horrible defense, both teams running up and down the court shooting wide open shots.

Anyone think the defense was great last night ??

I bet my man FIG will agree that horrible defense was played in that game last night.

Kansas is No. 6 adjusted defense in the country.
Oklahoma is No. 7 adjusted defense in the country.

That's sort of like Eddie Jordan's defense

The conversation was about the defense last night, Kansas vs. Oklahoma. Did you see great defense or did you see both teams giving up wide open shots ?

I know Choppin you support Eddie and it is admirable. He has been dealt a bad situation and has not been able to get us out of it.
However, that game last night was the best regular season game I have ever seen and I have been watching for 50 plus years. The skill on that court that probably had 5-6 Nba players between both teams is what allowed it to be played at the highest level.
The defense was outstanding. Frank Mason played some of the best denial defense and in your face defense on Buddy Hield and Buddy still scored 46. It wasn't because of lack of defense. In fact , the last 2 plays in the game involved great defense on a Hield spin in the lane causing a steal and turnover and the sideline play by Mason to deflect the inbound play. However, Mason crossed the 3 foot line and should have been whistled or warned.
Again , if you could not enjoy that game played at the highest level, offensively and defensively with maximum effort and skill then you just do not enjoy basketball. That was most classic best regular season game you will ever see. You should have just enjoyed it instead of injecting Eddie into that game.

Correction...as I mentioned many times, I support Rutgers, not any individual coach. Jordan can retire or get fired tomorrow and I would support the new coach....100%.

I enjoyed the game because I love watching teams playing an exciting wide open style. But, we will have to disagree, because I do not think it was great defense. Bill Self, the Kansas coach also said in his post game remarks that it was basically a situation where both teams abandoned their offensive sets and just played run and gun offense.

Oklahoma had two players combine for 73 points and shot 14-24 on three point shots. How can that be great defense ? What about denying those two players some three point shots ? Sure, you probably had some individual plays where good defense was played, but, overall, it was not great defense. It was great shooting.

Didn't watch the game, but considering how uncommon 30 pt games are to get in college, let alone 40, by two players on the same team? I would venture to say that there was probably no defense you could've thrown at them that would've kept them in check.

Like somebody else said, it was probably one of the greatest performances in regular season ball considering how highly ranked both teams were.

Kansas and Oklahoma actually have players with skills that they develop. Funny how that works.

Choppin, Self did not say that in the post game. He complimented Frank Mason for one of the best defensive performances even though Hield scored 46, which sounded funny to him but if you watched the game you would agree with him. The offensive shooting , driving, terrific acrobat moves by skilled, NBA level talent was on display. Despite great defense the offense was just better. Do not want you to just disagree, rather watch the game again. I bet you will enjoy it even more and probably change your mind.

We will disagree...I saw a ton of wide open 3 point shots in that game. How can you say 14-24 on 3's to two guys was great defense? After the first 8, maybe they could double them to forcethem to give up the ball or deny them the ball past the 3 point line. But no, they get 6 more open 3 point shots. Not even Steph Curry can get that many open looks.

And Self said they abandoned any half court sets to let his team play free. That's what you do when the other team is not playing defense, you don't need set plays to generate good offensive looks. I listened to the podcast of the post game press conference.

I can only SMH- (shake my head) when giving up 46 points to one player is considered great defense. We can end the conversation on that note.

That guy who had 46 points on 14-24 3 point shots is a natural shooter and spent thousands of hours shooting since he was 12 years old. No coach developed that talent. If that were the case, anyone could be turned into a great shooter....even LotusAgressor...lol

I'm not sure what this means considering that you have been pretty disparaging of our past coaches, Coach Rice in particular. I was under the impression from this quote that you are behind all Rutgers coaches. So therefore, once EJ quits or gets terminated or not renewed, you will disparage him as well? Also, this means that you were supportive of Coach Rice during the fiasco that ended his stay here. I'm not sure how this support translates into how the basketball program is going to be successful someday if it's only about showing support.

Also, doesn't this mean that you are being a little disingenuous in your support of our coaches, past and present?

Really ? Disparaging of our past coaches? I think you have me confused with someone else. I was not even a regular participant on this board when Rice was coach. Of course I did not support him after the video surfaced because that damaged the Rutgers brand on a national level and he had to go. Maybe you don't know how bad it was, but, I got roasted on a daily basis for being a Rutgers fan. To this day, I still hear references about the Rice scandal whenever a conversation turns to Rutgers sports. People living in Jersey don't know how bad the Rutgers Brand was damaged. Go outside the state and you will get a good sense of it. I actually stopped wearing Rutgers gear for a while a few years ago. Random people were actually asking how I could wear a sweatshirt or T-shirt with the Block R.

I'm in Columbus, Ohio, so, prior to the B1G, I had to listen to most games on radio unless I was able to catch a few games on ESPN or ESPN 2. A few games also came on CBS/FOX Sports. I was never able to watch any of the first 10 non- conference games.

My only recent references to Rice were limited to the mess he created after the scandal that made Rutgers Basketball a national embarrassment and damaged our ability to attact better players.

I have never commented on the coaching of FHJ, Bannon or Waters.

Sorry, not to make it overly personal, but I remember reading somewhere you made a blanket statement saying none of of previous coaches recruited talented players. Excuse me if I'm wrong but that seemed to be a criticism of their abilities as head coach of our program. A criticism that you won't afford our current head coach because he is still employed.

I have never overtly criticized any Rutgers coach or player. I have limited my comments to what needs to be done to improve the situation. Regarding recruiting, yes, I have said that Rutgers has never been in play to get top players. I have mentioned that we have about ten or less top 100 players signed in the last 25 years....that's the truth.

I think i was watching Chopped with Mrs. FIG so i can't vouch.

there was a decent amount of D in the Ind - Wisc game. ESPN announcers were very candid talking about Ferrell's D and Nigel Hayes not playing hard.
