I didn't go to RU, but I became a fan back in the early 2000s because I like to root for the underdog and I loved how hard Schiano's team's competed.
Coach Flood carried on the legacy and lead Rutgers to the second best season since I became a fan (LAST YEAR!). He has recruited some amazing players, like Kemoko Turay who is a first round talent. More importantly, he has shown a ton of class as a person. His support of the Special Olympics is impressive. The class he showed in 2013 when so many vipers were gunning for his head was impressive (watch the press conference after the UConn game when it looked like he had lost his job & ask yours if you could be that graceful & professional under those circumstances). His support for Eric LeGrand is positive. His players love him -- see the tweets from Anthony Davis & RJ Dill.
In short, I think Flood has represented RU very well & I love rooting for his teams.
Nonetheless, he is under fire. Again, we don't know all the facts, but the email thing seems silly. If the only issue is an email and that 5 players got arrested, then there are no grounds to fire him (kids getting arrested isn't good, but it's also not the coach's fault when 5 out of 105 break the law). If there's something serious, it should come out. Otherwise there is no reason to fire a good man who is doing a good job & this nonsense should stop. The last time this happened was with Gary Waters, a good man and a good coach and Rutgers still hasn't recovered from firing him.
I'm looking forward to rooting for my favorite team and my favorite coach this Saturday and for many more years.
