I try really hard to stay out of all the back and forth on this board about our Head Coach Kyle Flood, AD Julie Herman or President Barchi, but a post I just saw about Flood set me off. So below are just a few of my thoughts on the subject of Coach Flood.
The post that set me off mentioned a few things.
1. Our current recruiting class is not really that that good.
2. Flood has not been able to recruit B1G type players and lastly the one that really got me going.
3. Flood can't develop players.
I'm am going to start by answering #2 & #3 first,
#2. I agree we have not brought in a host of four star recruits the last few years and if you go by star rankings they were not B1G quality recruits. Interestingly, we won 3 B1G games last year and should have won a 4th with these non quality recruits.
#3. So now that I agree we haven't been getting these "Great" recruits I have to wonder who developed all these two and three star recruits into NFL players? Maybe they learned to play better by reading this board, because we all know Flood and staff can't develop talent.
#1. I really like the current class because Flood has been recruiting to fill our needs and not worrying about stars and what some butt head talent evaluator said. Case in point is Anthony Russo who was a two star when Flood recruited him and everyone pissed and moaned because he wasn't Gaurantano or Haskins. A few of the other lower ranked recruits we have already been bumped up and I feel strongly a few more like Jon Pollock and Hewitt will be.
To be clear I was not at all sold on Coach Flood when he was hired, but at that time we didn't have much of a choice. I truly believe he has been growing in the job and cares deeply about his players both on and off the field. Is he the right coach to take us to a championship in the B1G? My crystal ball is broken so I can't answer that. How this team move through these rough times we are in and how we do on the field should determine coach Floods future. Not people on this site and definitely not our wonderful local media.
