Lacking a Closer.

In the Miami game and this game , we had chippies in the final seconds that were missed. I think it was Hyatt in both games. So technically we just have a guy who isn’t finishing from point blank in the clutch

Point blank with no body around.

The team lacks shooters from the beginning of the game to the last shot. There are too many complementary type players and no Baker or Harper at crunch time. The margin for error is very small because of the lack of offense.

This team has quality but is in desperate need of a closer.
Yes. And Caleb and Hyatt are NOT the answers. Cliff could be if he didn't freakin' disappear tonight. As well as Paul and Cam. And for once, I would like to see Pike call an isolation play to get Cam open for an easy 3 point basket. Yes, I believe he can make it.

Cliff is way too inconsistent and green offensively to be a closer. That's not what Paul does, and Cam cannot create a shot for himself. A closer does not currently exist on this team which is why you had the result you had tonight....and may very well have others down the road.

True. But if you read some of my other posts, Cam can knock down the open shot if Pike would draw up a damn iso play for him. He has yet to do that. Yes, Cam missed some open looks, but I would like to see Pike iso him where he catches and shoots. And as for Cliff, sorry, but the kid is not close to being ready for the NBA. Tonight, he just disappeared.

How is Cam getting an open easy 3 from an iso?
Step back 3?

It’s the complete opposite. We use no off ball movement or screens to get him an open catch and shoot 3.

Right now, Cam is NOT getting an open three, because Pike has yet to run an ISO play for him. This kid can shoot. Yes, he missed some open shots, but just like the former kid from Purdue, Cam is the kind of player that can come off a screen and his an open 3. Pike has yet to even iso for this kid. IMO, terrible decision making by Pike.

Ummm…..that’s not a iso.
(Short for isolation - i.e. player gets the ball outside 3pt line or in the paint and rest of team clears out).
Basically what we did last year with Geo/RHJ at end of games.

I think everyone would agree that we need to use off ball movement to get Cam open looks.
The misunderstanding is you keep saying “iso”.

No, you're wrong. I know exactly what an ISO is, and it's not just clearing out for a particular player. You can screen to get a player open for a shot. That is also an ISO.

I agree with a lot of what you say - out of everyone Cam would be one of the top players I would want taking a shot at the end - he has however missed a lot of open shots up to now. That being said our options are limited.

And yeah 100% Cliff is NOT ready for the next level at this point - he's getting better, but still very far away.

Our great teams had a 6'1" point guard who posted up his man. Sometimes he backed him down, sometimes he got position and was fed the ball while the big man cheated out from under the boards to draw the defensive center.

Such inside out plays other to be a boo brain ER for a6'7" point guard with great footwork like Paul.

This dribbling has to stop.
