Ladies and Gents....the nicest editorial written about Rutgers sports from the Star-Ledger.....ever

Not bad, but I couldn't get past this...

New Jersey's state school took a big gamble when it joined this athletic conference

Well, it WAS a gamble in that it will no doubt require much more spending and diligent leadership....and the leadership of the athletic dept, the football program and the basketball program has been constantly in question for so much of the past five years.

I don't work for the Star-Ledger, but I do see that point.

It wasn't a gamble in that unprecedented new revenue and exposure would come regardless of troubled athletic leadership.

It was nowhere close to a "gamble" in any facet of the move. A 6-month old could have seen this move for what it was: the easiest decision in the universitiy's long, storied history.

"Gamble=take risky action in the hope of a desired result"

What was risky in joining the B1G?

We knew there would be a huge $$ payout.
We knew the CIC was a benefit.
We knew we would sell more football tickets.

A moron would have declined the invite and stayed in the AAC. Doing THAT would have been a gamble.

If that statement was part of the editorial, the editorial board is not too swift.

Um, a terrible article as usual. Back handed compliments, zero investigation into how Rutgers calculates the subsidy versus others. RU's is overstated versus others.

SL writing about Michigan and B1G friends: 'gush, gush, B1G and NJ players are soooooo awesome'

Rutgers joins the same conference: 'Rutgers is taking a big gamble'

Will never read that rag again. Simply refuse. I also don't consider them writing a fair (or close to fair) article breaking news that can't be missed.

I don't get the "WE" that they used in the last paragraph.PLUS,I don't want ANY of FB related MONEY to go to new faculty or old.Plow it back into FB related matters.RU:football:ROCKS!!

I would like to know the reason for the change in tone. Hobbs? Concern that they will look like fools when the full BIG $ start rolling in?

Friends in high places. Plus it doesn't hurt to know the owner. The man is very well connected politically and with captains of industry, they all run in the same circles. How do you think he got the title of ombudsman to the Governor.[winking]

Don't do it ...don't take the bait. The SL is acting like the creepy dude with a van offering us candy ...
