I was just wondering on how badly we tried to retain him (if someone truly knows). My take on Paul over the last 4 years was that he was very close with Pikiell and that he would have been the last player to transfer; especially at the 11th hour like he did.
I heard he graduated in 3 years so last season he was taking graduate classes, which is amazing in itself for anyone, let alone an athlete.
I dont buy the resentment toward fans who criticized him. Paul was genuinely loved by most fans. You will be criticized anywhere when you are not playing well. He played injured for many games last year and that was obvious. When pikiell played him alongside of Simpson, i thought he was much more comfortable and that he would have thrived on the court this year; especially with Gavins shooting ability.
So, i just have to wonder. I have been agitated over Pauls departure, but to close the book, can anyone confirm if pikiell offered to match what he was supposedly getting from other schools? Or did we just say good luck and move on?
I don’t think this could have been a very good last conversation with Steve. Is anyone willing to share insight on the last few weeks prior to him hitting the portal?
After anyone hits the portal, is there anyway of them changing their minds or is that just the final decision to leave?
