PISCATAWAY, N.J. (April 24, 2015) - Rutgers men’s basketball coach Eddie Jordan announced today that forward Jonathan Laurent (Orlando, Florida) has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Scarlet Knights. A 6-6, 195-pound forward, Laurent averaged 16.8 points and 6.6 rebounds-per-game this past season to earn Florida Association of Basketball Coaches Class 8A All-State honors at Dr. Phillips High School.

“We are very excited to welcome Jonathan into the program,” said Jordan. He’s a knowledgeable player with great athleticism. Jonathan’s very versatile and has the ability to play face up or with his back to the basket. He’s also a competitor, who both defends and rebounds well.”

In two seasons at Dr. Phillips, Laurent became the sixth leading scorer in school history, after posting 19.0 points and 9.0 rebounds as a junior. Laurent transferred to Dr. Phillips after averaging 18.0 points-per-game at Freedom High School.

Laurent is ranked as a three-star prospect by Rivals.com and ESPN.com, which also rates him as the No. 25 prospect in the state of Florida and the No. 46 small forward nationally. He played on the AAU circuit for Southeast Elite.

Laurent joins a 2015 Rutgers recruiting class that also includes guard Corey Sanders, forward Kejuan Johnson and guard Justin Goode. A consensus four-star recruit, Sanders is ranked No. 60 in the nation in the ESPN Top 100. Johnson is a three-star recruit and the 51st overall forward in the class of 2015 according to ESPN.com. Goode, a skilled three-point shooter, joined the Scarlet Knights in January and redshirted this past season.
