I'm excited by the hire and the promise of a new era in Rutgers Football with top notch schemes that will give us a chance to punch above our weight, for once. Ash is also well spoken, has a passion in his approach that will enable him to sell the program effectively as the lead guy.

I think the Rutgers AD really has to look at that window after he gets done with the bowl game and orchestrate the equivalent of a PR launch. We saw Franklin do it very effectively at PSU and perhaps that is a model they need to look into and re-shape to fit Ash's personality and program messaging.

Whatever happens between now and then, I give the guy a pass on. The job literally came out of nowhere, he's running around with an impossible task, short handed, two high profile, public jobs, it ain't easy for Chris Ash right now.

But he has to come in here, buttoned up, with his messaging talking points fully flushed out, once OSU is done. He has to have a determined enthusiasm that screams, "this program, without a doubt, is on an upward trajectory from here." He needs to detail the schemes and get people excited about the Chris Ash brand of football. And he needs to be EVERYWHERE. TV, radio, newspapers..a full court press.

May not be the most natural thing for him. He doesn't need to be bigger than his personality and over sell it but he has to find that right tone, have the right phrasing and he needs to go for it. Hopefully there are people in the AD or outside firms who can work with him on the messaging and media training, if required.

He puts together a dynamite first week and it will set the tone for the rest of recruiting and into the spring and summer practices. If he comes out flat, it's a missed opportunity at momentum, the most important thing for a program. Get it going in the right direction and everything is easier.

And someone needs to book that family a long vacation come early February, I'm sure he needs it like yesterday. Thank God he's young.
