For what it is worth, we look to be in a dead heat in terms of stars. Yes, we hope Ash can up the ante in the future in recruiting, but we are hardly scraping the bottom of the barrel here. Iowa is a respected team in the league and we can certainly attain the same level once the new staff gets some more traction.
Still think we will be taking our lumps this year, but an upset or two would certainly be nice.

Louisville, who is ranked #3 nationally, recruiting is similar to Rutgers this year. Their ranking for 2013-2016 was normally between 35-41 nationally and they had only 3 4 stars in 2013, 2014, 2016 and no 4 stars in 2015. However, they seldom had any 2 stars recruits unlike Flood. Their offensive system maximizes their player ability. The QB was 4 star duel QB but was 17th ranked QB while the NJ QB sitting 3rd string at ND was in the top 5.

I think Rutgers can be effective if we continue to recruit players for the current system with 2-3 4 stars players every year with almost all other recruits being 3 stars. We will be competitive with Penn State, Maryland, and Michigan State. Do you see Maryland recruiting? They have more 4 stars projected to commit also. Their recruiting if they continue will make them better than Penn State in no time.

Don't be so discouraged, didn't we beat North Carolina and Arkansas just a couple of years ago? Arkansas ranked 18 and NC who now is considered a powerhouse in the ACC. It doesn't take long to turn it around.

The problem for Maryland, and Rutgers, will simply be keeping the momentum going. If Maryland can do that, watch out. If we can do that, we will launch to the middle of the conference within 3 years.

Agree that we can get to Iowa's level of play on the field, but it will take a few recruiting classes. Louisville hit it big time with their QB who is perfect for their system.

We have won 2 games with nearly the worst QB performance in all of college football. Oden and Lewis will eventually be significant upgrades at the position. In the meantime, our schedule over the next few weeks will produce ugly results with our current talent level (but this board will claim the losses are due to poor coaching). Also, LB was going to be a problem for us this year and now it has gotten to be an even bigger issue.

How many do we actually keep in Feb?

Ash better be better than a salesman who can sell snow to a....

I think we keep most. I have NEVER seen the de commits for ANY OTHER TEAM than when Flood was our coach. Some Rutgers fans tried to rationalized the de commits because of the threat Flood wasn't going to be here but other teams terminated their coaches or didn't even have a HC kept most of their commits.

I don't even know if Ash is a great recruiter, maybe a good recruiter, but I know recruits didn't want to play for Flood.

Oh, I was looking at ND recruiting New Jersey recruits and since 2004 there has been only 1 New Jersey recruits that made it to the NFL, Theo Riddick. They have recruited numerous 4 stars NJ recruits, but most don't even get a ND degree since they either transfer out or let go for bad behaviors.

Go to Rutgers and at least get your degree. Most come back to NJ anyhow when they don't go to the NFL.

This Coaching Staff will get it done.Part of me wants it all NOW,But the intelligent part Knows that it will be done in the near Future.

Iowa, Michigan State and Wisconsin are great models to what we want to do and what type of recruits that we realistically can get. Like these 3, we will lose recruits to OSU, Michigan and ND but we can build a very strong team based on 3 star and 4 star talent. Hamilton's class was an example of what could be. If Flood closed on the class that Hester was in the next year, it would have been the start of something significant; maybe talent better than those 3 schools.

The success or failure of Ash's tenure is going to be based on how good the players he recruits become after being in his program. What ultimately makes programs successful is the development of talent; turning recruiting rankings into winning production on the field.

Horses for courses has applied to all 3. Just like New England in the NFL.

Just look at Houston, that could be Rutgers in 3-4 years.

It will just be a bit rough going for the 1st 2 years.

By year 4 we will either be looking for a new HC or looking to give our current HC an extended contract.

True but I think we become more competitive and Ash stays.

As usual we compare apples to pork roll. We can field a competitive program with in state guys. They can't. We have 147 years of mediocrity at best. They have a pretty decent brand that they have earned. We are a totally different dynamic

My hope is that the recruits each year realize that this is an ongoing process that will not happen overnight as some of our board breatheren believe Will we get there? I really really really hope so.

Here are the rivals class rankings from 2013 to 2016. Shows that alot can be done with this type of player
(2013-2016)
RU 44 58 54 78
Iowa 51 56 59 42

Were gonna be fine guys! The University has finally made a commitment to being a contender in the BIG! That"s all I needed to see. It will take 3 to 4 years of Ash recruiting to see the difference. We are in a position now where we must rebuild (Thank you Kyle). We need to get to the position where we can just reload!
