Martini

I just think his shooting stroke is so bad, it doesn’t look smooth/comfortable at all.

Did Hayes have one 3PA today?

I actually genuinely felt bad for him today. The effort was there. The defense and rebounding was decent. But the shooting was so bad I couldn't believe it. They weren't even guarding him.
Not really sure how he got dubbed a shooter on this team. Hes not. He sometimes will hit a wide open one where his feet are planted but can’t hit in transition, shoot off the dribble, shoot off of screens, shoot with a hand in his face. To be a good shooter you have to be able to do those things effectively and he can’t.

Can we run a set for PJ so he can at least jack one up?

In a thread about Martini, who played better in the last 2 or 3 games, there are comments about fans wanting to run plays for an even less reliable player, just because PJ Hayes can shoot 3s??

How many plays did we have to run for Martini today?? Because the same dumb comments about running plays for Hayes, were the same comments in threads earlier this year about running plays or sets for Martini.

Did we run any plays today for Martini??? NO

Did Martini have wide open looks each and every time, without having to run or design a play for him?? YES

It is actually up to the players to perform, Pike and the staff can't run out on the court and shoot the ball for Martini. He had 5 clean looks today and went 0-5.....he had 5 clean looks against Nebraska and went 4-5.

That's the reality of basketball folks.....ideally, Martini can be counted on hitting a 3, for every 3 clean looks he gets....and ideally he hits 2 out of 5 most nights.

Everything for certain fans has to be handed to the players on a silver platter by the coaches, with no pressure and no defenders nearby, otherwise the coaches are terrible and don't run an offense. Players make plays, not coaches.

Michigan State has better players and shooters.....when they got open looks, they converted more......RU simply needs better players to take and make open 3s AND have that player do something else on the court in a positive manner. Martini worked very hard on his post defense, he just didn't get rewarded for his defense, with a couple of baskets dropping for him.

At this point, he is just completely broken and beyond repair. His contributions are negative and it's not happening here. Who knows if he was in over his head from the beginning or if he just got off to a bad start and couldn't recover. Maybe he's Michael Jordan and it's just our non functional offense dragging him down. I have no idea. But it's over for him here. I've never seen a less effective player. His only competition is the rest of the transfers Pike brought in. It would have been hard to do worse.

Martini actually played solid D again today and really boxed out well that led to rebounds, but obviously we all focus on his 5 missed 3s, which were all very wide open and makeable. The primary resson he was brought here. They were all in big shot cut the lead spots too. He’s going to play a lot now with Ogbole out as he’s basically our only back up center

I actually will give him a shoutout for some of the box outs today though.

Probably the first player I’ve seen this season look for contact on a box out underneath. Was nice to see.

Yeah I noticed it too.

If he hits two 3s we're in this to the end

All the three point lines at the Garden did he him no favors. Another reason silly playing there. Thought he was a foot or two out of his range every time.

Now we are not going to trust our senior captain to recognize what line to use ? Give me a break. He was wide open on all of them and could have taken 1 dribble and he still would have been wide open. Pike made huge error playing him and sitting Grant for 8-10 minutes.

Again look at the film. I think a tad/foot or two out of range and think rushed the same. Don’t think Garden helped.
