If we run the ball, especially with a healthy dose of Martin, we win this game. Maryland has scored 13 points in their last three games, so their woes are as bad as ours. And no, I don't think we are a good team, it's that the two teams most recently admitted to the B1G are both playing beyond bad.
We can pin them back on their goal line on kickoffs and punts, and get safeties. . . . . . .
they may be bad of late but they are playing for a bowl bid and have wins over Purdue ( in a blowout) and a win over Michigan State...by any metric they have the edge over RU who is playing their worst ball of the season right now
I find it interesting that we still have those who are confident we can win this game. Granted, MD is not a good team but they have shown the ability to score against everyone they have played. Clearly, we cannot come close to saying the same thing.

I find it interesting that we have RU fans who are confident we will lose this game. MD is not a good team, and they have shown the same ability to get blown out by tOSU, Michigan and Penn State that we have. If we want to play the transitive theory game, the scores against Howard were comparable, they beat MSU while we lost, and they got blown out by Minnesota, while we put up quite a few points and made it a close game. All of this means little for the actual game on Saturday. Expect a sloppy game and the team with most turnovers will lose.
there were those including a writer for the Round Table that thought RU was beating PSU too, cannot figure it out but some keep thinking that one half of solid ball against Minnesota means that we have so much potential, remember after that game how unreal the optimism was. You didnt hear much about talent gap after that game
I think getting blown out by Michigan State vs actual beating Michigan State is the key here. They also beat a bad Purdue team, while RU failed in its chance to beat a bad team in Illinois. Maryland is 2-5 and Rutgers is 0-7, by any metric they are better. They are not good but have you watched the last 9 quarters of our offense. Its beyond putrid
Would you feel different if you knew that a key contributor in the Michigan State game (and their most productive RB),was Lorenzo Harrison, who is now suspended indefinitely after he and two teammates were caught shooting a BB gun at fellow students on campus?
I have watched the last 9 quarters of our offense. Not awe-inspiring, but neither is Maryland's. As we know, the transitive theory rarely is a good predictor. Both teams suck. Now maybe if we can properly use our two solid RBs, Martin and Hicks (not leaving out Goodwin), perhaps we can do something. I am not holding my breath, and I am not making any predictions except that the game will be ugly.
Maryland has 5 wins. They were never shut out. One more win and they get into a bowl game. They beat Howard, FIU, UCF, Purdue, MSU. I don't see how we can win this game with our awful offense and playing on the road.
It applies both ways, and Maryland is struggling as much as we are and we can score on them. We scored on Minny and Indy because neither team is dominant, and Maryland is less dominant than those teams. If we run the ball reasonably well, we can win this game.
Playing at home for a bowl bid gives them the edge. That said, I'm hoping for some inspired play and the possible upset. How the game goes early will be huge.

If I were betting, I'd take R U plus anything over 8 since I believe this game is a one score final either way like a 28-24 or 28-20. We will be competitive in this game I truly believe.
Don't let our record fool you, we are playing some of the worst football in the country right now. With both defenses severely struggling to stop opposing offenses, I think 14 points is a big spread. We may win, but I don't think it'll be by more than two scores.

On the plus side, this probably won't be the ugliest football game ever played, which was our game against VT in the Russell Athletic Bowl four years ago. I expect a good game this Saturday since the teams are relatively evenly matched. It think both teams will want to win their games for their seniors, but there is a little more pressure/inspiration for MD since you go to a bowl if you win.
