Although I was disappointed in the OSU game results, I decided to look at the stats from our last game with Maryland. When you lose a game in any sport by one score, you can make the argument that had this or that happened, the result would have been different.
As a new fan of the sport (Yes, RU62, I clearly show how much "I don't know")and being very concerned with our inability to do much on face offs lately I saw that we actually did pretty well against Maryland (15-10). This gives me a lot more confidence since we were on the road and still did quite well against the top team in the nation. Maybe they also are a bit weak in this area?

They are actually very good in this area. I was surprised we did that well. Just as I was surprised we did this poorly against OSU.

The kids feel confident going against Maryland. We seem to match up with them better. And they don’t play vagina ball like OSU.

This is on a neutral field, one we haven’t seen. Maryland has though.

As I said they would at the time: the Princeton and Brown losses would come back to haunt us. I HATE that this is a "must-win" game on Thursday and the FO "issue" is already causing me agita....

...okay maybe that's the (red)gravy with sausage I made and devoured the last 2 days BUT nonethless!

As long as Denver and Albany win their respective conferences there are only 9 teams competing for 8 at-large bids. Four teams have already punched their ticket so barring anything unforeseen it is 5 teams fighting for 4 spots. No other teams have enough juice to come into the picture with out winning an AQ. Teams in bold are already locked in.
  • Duke
  • Johns Hopkins
  • Notre Dame
  • Cornell
  • Virginia
  • Rutgers
  • Syracuse
  • Ohio State
  • Villanova
We beat UMD, we're in. If we lose to Maryland, we are still in under most circumstances. Below are the games that impact us from most to least:
  1. BE tourney - if Villanova loses to Georgetown they are out and we are in. If they win it gets complicated. If either Nova or GT win the BE it gets really complicated.
  2. Cuse vs. Army - a lose puts them squarely behind us AND helps our SOS
  3. Albany vs. America East - they have to win the conference AQ. We can't afford for the AE to become a 2 bid league.
  4. OSU vs. JHU - if they win they are in and jump us, lose and they are in our rear view.
  5. Cornell vs. Princeton - a loss likely puts them behind us AND helps our SOS. A win assures two Ivy bids so the outcome of the championship does not affect us.
What to root for this weekend:
  • Denver to win BE over Georgetown
  • Yale to win Ivy over Princeton
  • Albany to win AE
  • Army over Cuse
  • Hopkins over OSU

Nice recap. Two corrections. Army plays Notre Dame. Colgate plays Syracuse. Cornell plays Brown, not Princeton (Princeton just beat them). Not holding out much hope for Colgate, but they do have some interesting scores. They beat Cornell and played some other teams tough. Brown seems likely to get destroyed.

The Army ND game is interesting. If Army is to win that game, that puts a real black mark on the acc champions, and the teams that make up that league.

Shit, I mixed that up. Makes things a bit harder for us. Not sure if ND gets knocked out even if they lose to Army. Doubt Cuse loses to Colgate but it would be a nice gift.

Thanks for doing my homework haha
No prob. Note that I mixed up Cuse and ND’s opponent this week. ND is playing Army and Cuse is playing Colgate. Those games become less relevant to us because a loss to Army would not knock ND out of the tourney and Cuse us not likely to lose to Colgate but if they did it would be nice.

Another to watch is Bucknell. But I think the loss to BU sealed their fate. They are behind all the teams listed and with no more games scheduled they have no way of moving up.

So do we want Hopkins to beat OSU and Georgetown to beat Nova? We want Albany, Yale and Denver to win the AQ of course. I think Nova is done with a loss, but a win and a spot in the BE Champ Game might push them ahead of RU.

Yup. I think you are right. Other than upsets in otherwise 1 bid conferences, Nova’s our biggest threat. Not sure if a win over GT would be enough but it would be close, especially since we’d be coming off a 3 game losing streak. Not a good look.

An Army win would definitely taint the whole acc. It would negatively effect RPI’s.

True but I still don’t think it will have any meaningful impact short term. Won’t be enough to knock ND out and I don’t see Cuse getting left out because ND loses to Army. Longer term it may negatively impact the perception of the ACC and they won’t get as much credit for beating each other in the future.
