Maybe RU could poach some of Baylor's coaches.

SOURCES: Baylor coach Matt Rhule interviewed for the Indianapolis Colts head coaching vacancy earlier this week. Rhule, who completed his first season with the Bears in November, spent the 2012 season as the New York Giants offensive line coach. He is 29-34 in five seasons as a college head coach.

Had mentioned in another thread, a good DL coach candidate would be Baylor's DL coach, Elijah Robinson
http://www.baylorbears.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/elijah_robinson_1041907.html

Had also mentioned Baylor's OC, Glenn Thomas for RU OC job:
http://www.baylorbears.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/glenn_thomas_1041923.html

Thomas, who spent the previous two seasons as Rhule's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Temple University, brings to Waco seven years of NFL coaching experience and 11 years of coaching in the state of Texas.

In two years at TU, one as quarterbacks coach and the second as offensive coordinator, Thomas helped the Owls win 20 games and capture the 2016 American Athletic Conference title. Under Thomas' direction in 2016, the offensive production increased 46.9 yards per contest (from 366.7 to 413.6) and 2.6 points per game (from 29.8 to 32.4). In his first season at Temple, Thomas mentored junior QB P.J. Walker as he threw for 3,295 yards and 22 touchdowns on 230-of-395 passing. In two seasons working with Walker, Thomas helped the signal caller become Temple's all-time leader in pass attempts (1,410), completions (803), passing yards (10,273), TD passes (72) and total offense (11,100).

Prior to his arrival at Temple, Thomas spent seven seasons in the NFL. He was the Atlanta Falcons quarterbacks coach for three seasons after four seasons as an offensive assistant. During his tenure in Atlanta, the Falcons offense was its most productive in franchise history, and quarterback Matt Ryan soared to new levels each season.

During the three seasons when Thomas guided Ryan, the former first round pick out of Boston College threw for more than 4,500 and 26 touchdowns in each season, earning Pro Bowl honors in 2013 and 2015. Ryan cemented himself as the best quarterback in franchise history, supplanting Steve Bartkowski with 28,166 career passing yards and 181 touchdowns. It was under Thomas, however, that Ryan set career and franchise single-season highs in passing yards (4,719), touchdown passes (32) and completion percentage (68.6) in 2012.

Aside from his work with Ryan, while Thomas was in Atlanta the offense featured perennial All-Pros Roddy White and Julio Jones at wide receiver, Michael Turner at running back, and Tony Gonzalez, arguably the best tight end to play in the NFL.

Usually a first time NFL HC will take the best members of his college staff, specifically those who have coached in the NFL before.

He won one game at Baylor last year, who’d hire him after that??

Way to go killing recruitng coach!

Rhule starting his Baylor death spiral early.

I'm sure someone will start a new thread for this but I'm going to just throw it in this one. It's somewhat of an offshoot.

Hearing there’s a lot of interest around the NFL in #OhioState DC Greg Schiano for some defensive coordinator jobs. He is very well-regarded by a lot of folks up there.

EDIT:
Mark Helfrich was also hired by the Chicago Bears as OC.

Raises a lot of - smoke / fire - questions related to Rhule's situation at Baylor
- hard to imagine that Baylor was pleased to learn that Rhule was interviewing ... or were they?
Wonder when & how the coaching staff became aware?
... and are they thinking "we will follow Rhule" or "Oh crap! we better be prepared to find a new gig - cause this one is shaky" ? - or a bit of both?

Some of us have been saying this from Day 1 but some here didn't want to believe it:

Rhule walked into a dumpster fire that's about to turn into the Titanic. Why ANY could and family, would be foolish enough to follow him all the way to Waco - WACO - Texas, from NJ, is simply mind-boggling ESPECIALLY with all the information about the goings-on at Baylor, in the recent past, readily available for all to read about.

It has been reported that a vocal part of the fan base does not support him.

Rhule probably thought that he was being brought in to undertake something on the order of a major corporate clean-up & turn-around - new culture - new standards of excellence - all that stuff ....
... until a highly placed figure subtly informed him that he was mistaken - and was simply expected to vigorously focus on cooking the books & hustle down every short-cut available.

And if I remember correctly, he could have gotten the Oregon job in the land of Nike.

I still don't get the love for Rhule. He took a Temple program to a great season, thanks to some "hidden gem" type of recruits, against a shit schedule in a shit conference, but hey good for him!

Baylor AD was someone he already knew. Got sold a bill of goods.

Doesn't say much about Rhule IMHO. Anyone remotely familiar with the college athletics scene the past 10-years knows what a disaster he was walking into at Baylor.

Take this how ever you wish - as many might have guessed - Matt Rhule will not become the Colts HC
- but "he turned it down" ? humm? interesting ? skeptical ?

#Baylor coach Matt Rhule, following an interview with the #Colts, has informed the team that he elected to remain with his school, source said. ... Yes, he has rhuled Indy out.
