Let's put aside the Flood debate for this thread. This isn't at all about absolving Flood of any of the team woes but there are lots of threads to talk about that.
One name that you really don't see anyone talk about is the OC. Is he a major part of the problem? I think so. Some of the problem might be the defenses, some of it might be the QB, and some of it the TE/WRs but even bad teams can throw for more than 100 yards against good defenses. I've been amazed at the utter lack of options in the passing game. The OL does not help but they aren't that bad. If you watch there are plenty of plays where Laviano has time to make a throw.
All this talk about short quick hitting routes but our receiver routes seem to take forever to develop. Even the WR screen plays seem slow. With a QB under siege there doesn't seem to be a lot of quick options. And the ones that do seem to exist are either muddled in the defensive coverage or consist of slow moving TEs.
This Nebraska game really highlighted that to me. The passing game is terrible and it's not just the QB or WRs. The play calling and schemes are not good. Forget Pro Style - that's not the problem right now. There are lots of pro style offenses that have explosive passing games. We just have a terrible scheme.
It was comical that Nebraska blitzed their corner three straight plays near the end of the game and we never had any short outlets for Laviano to go to or any way to exploit the blitz.
