Was having a discussion with some friends the other day of the most famous stadiums/arenas for sports still in use today. Can because of history, unique nature, or domination of a team, but it should be the stadium that comes to mind when you think about that league/sport.

MLB: Fenway Park - The green monster is iconic and most famous stadium piece in all of sports
NBA: Madison Square Garden - Knicks have sucked for a while, but no stadium comes close
NFL: Lambeau Field - Frozen Tundra! (Jerry world has a chance just because of its extravagance)
NHL: Joe Louis Arena - so much history and octopi! (would have been the Igloo hands down had the Pens not moved out in 2011)
NCAABB: Cameron Indoor Stadium - the Cameron crazies make this the first place you think of in college bball.
NCAAFB: Rose Bowl - the parade, the history, the size. (this was the hardest)

your picks?

Wrigley Field, Soldier Field, The Big House.

Yankee Stadium would have been a contender, but the new Stadium not around long enough.

MLB - Wrigley or Fenway are the only real options

NBA - Madison Square Garden is really the only option unless you go with the LA Forum (but the Forum isn't used by Lakers or Kings anymore). The Forum is on the National Historical Registry, I assume MSG is too? You could outside the box and go the Oracle Arena in Oakland. It's older than MSG.

NHL - Joe Louis is the obvious choice along with MSG. If you want to go really outside the box, the old Northlands Coliseum (Rexall Centre), home of the Edmonton Oilers. That place was apparently awesome during those great runs in the Gretzky-era.

NFL - It's Lambeau easily. Soldier Field probably running 2nd.

CBB - Cameron is an easy choice but Allen Fieldhouse could be in the running as could Pauley Pavilion. Outside the box? Palestra in Philly.

CFB - There are a lot of choices here because college football seems to be the one sport where teams aren't spitting out new arenas like the pro sports and even college basketball in some areas. Rose Bowl as someone said but the Cotton Bowl might have just as much tradition. Hosts the OU-Texas series, hosted the Cotton Bowl for decades, the Cowboys called it their home stadium for about a decade, SMU played there for years. Other obvious choices are Michigan Stadium, Notre Dame Stadium, The Horseshoe, etc.

Since the question wasn't limited to the US:

Maracana in Rio for Soccer (Pele's home field)
Wembley in London

So many of the old classics have been replaced: Joe Louis Arena is nothing compared to the old Montreal Forum. The old Yankee Stadium.

LA Coliseum from the Olympics (twice) to the LA Rams, the LA Raiders to USC....

NBA has the old Boston Garden with the parquet floor, when Auerbach used to adjust the temperature controls in the visiting team's locker room come playoff time.

Well, get in your visits to MSG while you can. At least as of right now, they're looking to renovate Penn Station and MSG's permit on the current site will expire in 2023.

Hinkle fieldhouse is an awesome place. My mother played volleyball and basketball for the Bulldogs in the 70s

The Palestra in Philadelphia is a historic college basketball arena which gained fame with the Big Five local teams.

Fenway has to be my all time favorite. We tour it every time we are in Boston. Not sure why we still do this as we have seen every square inch of it many times. My favorite picture of us was taken as we were peeking out of a hole in the scoreboard from inside the green monster.

Soccer:
Stamford Bridge
Old Trafford
The Burnabeu
Estadio Azteca (Club America & Mexican National Team)
San Siro Stadium
Allianz Arena

Don't know any of these names I implore you to look them up.

MLB:
Old Yankee Stadium
Fenway

NBA: no really care . The NBA sucks

NHL:
Air Canada Ceter
Joe Louis Arena
Nassau coliseum in the early 80's

CFB:
Notre Dame Stadium
Legion Field (Iron Bowl)
Memorial Stadium (Nebraska)

CBB:
CAMERON INDOOR
everything else
