Today was Media Day at RU and it is the one day in camp all the freshmen are available so I spoke to a bunch of them. Here are some highlights:
Kamaal Seymour told me he is 298 pounds and really feeling good at that weight.
Mike Dare was talking about how much is thrown at a frosh qb at once and he is trying to learn as much as possible in a short span of time.
Zach Venesky said Derrick Nelson has been helping him adjust to the nuances of playing center, which is very complex.
Jon Bateky is one of the more mature freshmen I can ever recall talking to and there is a real chance he will play this year. He is up to 270 and lining up now at 3-tech.
Bless Austin said he has really used the spring enrollment to boost his play. Don't be surprised if he starts on opening day.
I also spoke at length with Hayden Rettig. I can tell you he is really hungry for playing time and said even when he does play, he will not stop working. I am really seeing a nice progression in him sover the course of the year.
DL coach Jim Panagos told me there is excellent chemistry on this D-line and Scott Vallone mentioned that this is the biggest DL he has since during his stint at Rutgers.
Both coordinators spoke today but did not reveal a whole lot. I will have articles with both coming up shortly.
