I probably shouldn't keep harping on this, but IMO RU just was not mentally in the right frame of mind. Some of us have been unfortunate enough to let the pressure get to us at some time in athletics. Mostly you lose focus, and your legs feel like they have lead in them. You are kicking yourself afterward, but the next time you are ready!
If my memory serves me correctly, it appeared during PSU's first goal that none of our girls moved a muscle on the corner kick. The PSU player had an open lane to the ball with no challenge whatsoever. Two girls were allowed to park right in front of the goalie. A neophyte might call it a lack of effort, but it was in actuality a lack of focus.
IMO RU would have been the equal of PSU, if they played with their usual energy - even going against the home field advantage. We rely on quickness and anticipation rather than speed. Our girls have as fast a first step as anybody, and they are usually great team players. So they are constantly forcing the other team into mistakes - but not yesterday.
It is what it is - their first time playing for a prize of this magnitude. They did not look to at the same level as PSU yesterday, and I think this was the reason rather than lack of equal talent. But it is my opinion.
I am a huge fan and can't wait to attend our first tournament game.
