Men's and Women's Soccer Move UP; Wright Named National POTW!

Both of the teams have some pretty high but reachable aspirations at this juncture:

If the men defeat UMd, they have an excellent shot at becoming RU's first B1G team champions. For that to happen, OSU would need to lose or tie one of its two remaining games, which I believe come against UMd and Michigan, two of the top four in the league standings.

The women can't finish first - Wisconsin has already pretty much sewn that up - but they can still finish second by defeating Iowa and then getting some help with other top teams either losing or tying their remaining games. But finishing second should mean a first round bye in the B1G women's tournament and possibly one or more home games.

Great year for both teams - somewhat expected for the women (but still excellent) but the men are a pleasant surprise. Wright is beast!

Doesn't look like any of the remaining regular season games are televised. I'm sure that the BTN will air conference tournament games.

Excellent stuff! -Terrific job by both the men's and women's teams.

Both squads have momentum at exactly the right time of year and they have a real chance of accomplishing some very B1G things!

-And young Mr. Wright is simply a FORCE! [thumb2]

Coaches Poll released today....

Women...#9 after vaulting PSU. Highest ranked team in B1G.

Men....#21 also highest ranked team in B1G.
now THAT is what I am talking about. Nice to see RU soccer back to where it once stood. get up the great work men and ladies! Bring it home!:golf:

It's a shame our women don't get to play Wisconsin.

Is there a Big Ten tourney or is it just regular season and then NCAAs?

Awesome, thanks.

I would love to go to their games.

If we can finish with a win tomorrow night against Iowa and Penn State/Michigan play to a tie...we finish in second place and will have the potential for two home games.

Concerning the women's tournament, are only the top 8 teams involved or is there a first round prior to the quarterfinals in which six games are played and only the top two teams (hopefully us along with Wisconsin) get the bye? And by "highest" seed, does that mean all games will be played at Wisconsin until such time as they might lose or should it actually be "higher" seed, so the top four seeds each get a home game?

Thanks.

Only top 8 qualify. Each game is at higher seed. If we win tomorrow we are guaranteed a home game.

Looks like we will be hosting Minnesota in the first round. If we get by that game we play the winner of PSU-OSU.

The Gophers were 6-0-1 at one point, running away with the title, but lost their final 3. Would love to see OSU knock of The Nitiots!

#3RU - #6Minn Sunday at 1:00. Other matchups are #1PSU - #8Ilini, #2Wisc - #7OSU, and #4NW - #5Mich.
Interesting, the Wisconsin site said they tied NW yesterday 1-1, so they would have been regular season champs. I just checked and it now says they lost 2-1 to NW so PSU won regular season title.

More impressive is the women's #4 RPI ranking - they could be in line for a national #1 seed

We took my daughter's U12 soccer team to the RU vs PSU women's game at Yurcak, and man was I impressed with how hard those ladies play. The kids were obviously impressed too and went on to play their most inspired game of the season later that day. They've been a lot more focused every game since then. So, thanks RU women's soccer, for being great role models!

Would presumably need to win the whole tournament for that to happen. We seem to play much better at home (both losses on the road, and one of the two ties), so we probably need OSU to knock off Wisconsin (or at least it would be a big help.)
