Huge game this Saturday vs. Army who knocked UMass out of the Top 20.
Army is playing NJIT today so we get them on short rest plus another opportunity to scout them.
Didn’t see the game but looking at the stats, turnovers seem to be the story of the game. UMass turned it over 23 times which lead to Army nearly doubling them up on shots. Everything else seemed about even except the score obviously. This is going to be a tough match up as always. Hopefully we can get some things worked out on faceoffs because we can’t afford to give Army to many extra possessions.
Of course, but it still gives them 2 fewer days to game prep and another opportunity for us to scout them. Advantage for us no matter how you slice it. Small, but an advantage nonetheless. An academy team will be just fine with 5 days rest. And against NJIT the starters will likely see minimal PT in the 2nd half.
I didn’t see the fall scrimmage, so that’s interesting. Do you think UMass is less athletic than SJU? I thought SJU was scrappy, which is pretty typical for them, but outside of the 2 brothers wasn’t too impressed with their athleticism.Umass was waaaaay overrated coming into the preseason.
As you know, there isn't a ton to be extrapolated from fall ball games, but one thing that you can see is athleticism. Our game against Umass was like watching men vs boys. We were clearly bigger, faster, stronger.

This does lead to a thought about scheduling. If a schedule strings together a Friday night game followed by a Tuesday game (St. John's plays tomorrow) followed by a Saturday game it provides 4 days between games. That should be enough for a recovery between games. That could allow for the season to begin later than Feb. 1. BTW, none of the Ivies have played yet, so they deal with midweek games.
Correct...I was at the Umass fall game and we pounded them...wasn't close. Hobart was much tougherUmass was waaaaay overrated coming into the preseason.
