Lacrosse Men's Lax #16 Nike/US Lacrosse, #20 Inside Lacrosse

Didn’t see the game but looking at the stats, turnovers seem to be the story of the game. UMass turned it over 23 times which lead to Army nearly doubling them up on shots. Everything else seemed about even except the score obviously. This is going to be a tough match up as always. Hopefully we can get some things worked out on faceoffs because we can’t afford to give Army to many extra possessions.

Army is playing NJIT today so we get them on short rest plus another opportunity to scout them.

An academy team will be just fine with 5 days rest. And against NJIT the starters will likely see minimal PT in the 2nd half.

Umass was waaaaay overrated coming into the preseason.

As you know, there isn't a ton to be extrapolated from fall ball games, but one thing that you can see is athleticism. Our game against Umass was like watching men vs boys. We were clearly bigger, faster, stronger.

Of course, but it still gives them 2 fewer days to game prep and another opportunity for us to scout them. Advantage for us no matter how you slice it. Small, but an advantage nonetheless.

I didn’t see the fall scrimmage, so that’s interesting. Do you think UMass is less athletic than SJU? I thought SJU was scrappy, which is pretty typical for them, but outside of the 2 brothers wasn’t too impressed with their athleticism.

This does lead to a thought about scheduling. If a schedule strings together a Friday night game followed by a Tuesday game (St. John's plays tomorrow) followed by a Saturday game it provides 4 days between games. That should be enough for a recovery between games. That could allow for the season to begin later than Feb. 1. BTW, none of the Ivies have played yet, so they deal with midweek games.

I would say yes. But we steamrolled them a physical standpoint.

And Ivy coaches hate that rule.

I am all for the season extending but these kids don't need to play more than they are right now. Just move it past Memorial Day.

Correct...I was at the Umass fall game and we pounded them...wasn't close. Hobart was much tougher

I'm not discounting Army...they will be tough as nails...but beating this Umass team should not move the needle...

Saturday will be interesting...this is a game that really could help springboard this team. And for those who just assume RU should beat Army...you're wrong. Army is legit...but RU can beat them.

I agree as I watched the UMass scrimmage I saw one team that was pretty athletic vs another team that worked hard. I do believe that Russo did not play the whole game which allowed UMass some chances.
This game is massive for Rutgers as a win could propel them close to the top ten as the get ready to go to Loyola, a loss and who knows.
Army just torched NJIT on 1 days rest, you better believe that they will be ready to go on Saturday and we will not over match them physically as we have against Quinnipiac and St. Johns

Could use a few more Canadiens for Saturday. Weather report predicts temperature between 25-30 at game time.

A few years ago we beat Army at Army which really set the tone for the season. A win Sat. it will do the same.

Army is what is and what it always is. A close, hard fought, bring your lunchbox game. We haven't had as many close games with any other programs either way as we have had with Army. Lots of one and two goal games in this history.

Their o is the strength of their team as they are breaking in some new D guys and a new goalie. We will score on them. How much depends on how much we can get the ball.

Michie is tough place to play. Our close D and goalie need to have solid outings.

always a tough game we are 3-3 vs them in the last 6 years with a zero goals differential. They are big, fast and athletic, but are also breaking in a new goalie and new fogo's. Surdick is a big loss for them, but they bring back alot of there offense as well. They have done an excellent job of slowing down our transition and last year the rode us especially well. Should be another 1 goal game with the outcome coming down to who wins faceoffs and who makes saves.
