I know Wake Forest is rated as #2 in the country but I thought we were supposed to be much better this season. That score is embarrassing.

Wake woke up and scored 3 goals in the first 10 min of the 2nd half ... RU had no SOG in 2nd half ... tough to play #2 team on road on the first game ... very early in the season.

Do not follow soccer closely. Weren't Donigan's credentials solid? Winning head coach elsewhere. Is it possible that success and failure around here goes way beyond coaching? Or is it that Donigan does not have what it takes to win on a bigger stage?

Watched on live stream. Every time I think that your manager will get it right, he goes in the other direction. Missed the first 25 but Rutgers looked pretty good for the last 20 of the first. Nice ball by Sa on the set piece got you level. For some unexplainable reason he started the second with Sa on the bench. I know that he is coming off foot surgery but he looked very fluid in the first. Wake controlled all the posession in the first 15 minutes and played the match in the attacking third for the entire time. At 4-1 he put Sa in but i turned it off at that point as it was obviously in the books. By appearances , it looks as if you have some more talent this year but you will suffer the same results if you cannot do more in posession. You have a few exceptional players in Decker, Sa and the new center back but they need to be utilized. Decker is a former US National but was not given the ball enough. The new keeper was inconsistent with distribution but looks to be competent in goal as a shot stopper

Question. Why is your name MamaRU but you refer to the fans as "you"? What school do you really back?

Wife is a Rutgers Supporter and Grad so that is the connection. I am not a fan of any school in particular. I am a soccer fan and have coached and been involved with NJ youth soccer for some time

Losing Jason Wright hurts a lot. I don't understand the point of opening at Wake and UNC when we have a tough B1G schedule to deal with. We got beat up last year when we opened with a bunch of top opponents. Why do it again when coming off a one win season. I know we beat Uconn 1-0 in a scrimmage so there is some hope

The game tonight is scheduled to be show live on the WatchESPN app (ESPN). Free if you have a cable company that cooperates with ESPN.

Ethan Decker more then makes up for the loss of Wright. He is an accomplished striker that will score if given good service.
The team could not maintain posession early in the second half which allowed Wake to get into a rythym. Rutgers seemed to settle into a compact defensive shell and wake gained more and more confidence. A team cannot win if it is chasing the ball for long stretches
Posession allows a team to rest and forces the other to chase. It is the best defense a team can play as the opposition can't score if it doesn't have ball
I'm not sure the staff understands this

RU scores , down by one. Actually w help from UNC sort of an 'own goal'

I hated the hire from the moment it was announced & have posted as much on here numerous times.

Opening vs Wake & UNC was 1 of the dumbest decisions ever, unless we had a contract & it couldn't have been bought out, which would've been odd.

Move on already.

Wow -- outscored 11-1 in the first two games, not counting the "own goal." How will we do when we move to the more manageable portion of the schedule? Any predictions from the knowledgeable fans?

Hobbs better fire this joker after the season. Donigan has done nothing outside of a dumb luck run in 2015. Pull the trigger the minute the season ends Pat. Complete idiocy to start the season vs two NC contenders after a 1 win season.

He should have been toast at the end of last year. While I did not think this opening weekend against two very highly ranked teams on the road would make or break this season, this could not have gone much worse.

While everyone loves the job Hobbs is doing he is definitely putting the minor sports on the back burner as witnessed by Donnigan and also women's lax coach Laura Brand not getting fired as her coaching record is even worse than Donnigan's. She should have been out of here 2 years ago especially since her contract had expired and Donnigan should have been gone last year no excuses

He's improved baseball, rowing and hopefully the marching band. Can't do it all at once.

My guess is both Donigan and Brand Sias are dismissed after their respective seasons. Like you said...can't do it all at once. But they can do it in pieces year by year until we get the B1G payday 3 years from now. Now is the time to strike and get both a real men's soccer and women's lax coach.

He definitely isn't doing that. Guy is just getting settled. Our budgets aren't unlimited. Priorities need to be made. Soccer is a tier 1 sport at RU. He will fix it.

Hobbs is getting rid of the low-cost coaches first. A solid B1G soccer coach will cost a lot more than rowing, field hockey and baseball. Think he'll make a run at turning women's lax into a national level program too. Hobbs will clean up the non-rev mess ... and women's hoops ... before the 2019-20 seasons.

DD was making around $130,000 last I checked. How much is a replacement, $260,000? $350,000? We don't have that?

how much do you think it costs to get a good coach in womens lacrosse versus what we at paying Brand-Silas?

1) opening up on the road at the numbers two and four teams in the nation was beyond stupid no matter whose choice it was

2) I said it 1 million times and I'll say it again: Donigan didn't deserve to be fired after last year based on the injury factor AND the fact that the previous season wasn't bad at all. It was actually pretty good..I also said that this will be the season he has to turn things around or he's in trouble. I think that's pretty fair.

3) as another poster stated it seems like Hobbs is working his way up the ladder. People wanted the field hockey coach fired a couple years ago, too, but all of a sudden they're starting to show huge improvement thanks to the B1G

It isn't so much about the money, though I am sure that is a piece of it. Rutgers upon his arrival was in a bad spot in virtually every position. Facilities, program failures, coaching changes needing to be made, you name it... you can't do everything all the time. At least not well. Priorities need to be made. Conducting a myriad of coaching searches after firings (including the big 2), facility upgrades, focusing fundraising...it simply all can't be done all at the same time. Frankly, I am amazed at what he has been able to do so far. He hasn't even been here two years and he has hired 2 rev coaches, achieved far greater success funding raising, assessed the department as a whole and allocated funds
Soccer and women's lacrosse on his radar. I can promise you that. DD has another year like last year, and if Brand-Silas doesn't pick it up, he will make changes. He isn't going to let those sports die on the vine. No way.

He's done a lot of great things in a short period of time, but this was a miss. You can't keep a coach that's lost his best players year after year, isn't recruiting well, plays an erratic style & isn't winning. Men's Soccer should've been a priority & could've been easily addressed.

It is a priority. And will be addressed. It's a tier 1 sport at Rutgers and will be treated as such.

And finding a great coach is never, ever easy. That's naive to say the least.
