So Michigan just agreed to a $122.3 million, 11 year deal with Nike as most of us have already read. (With an option to go to $169 for an additional 4 years)

Well Michigan State just signed a deal with Nike worth $34 million for 10 years. That is a difference of ~$88 million. Just goes to show you how far even Michigan State is from the big boys.

“Michigan is a top-five program internationally,” Rovell said. “If I’m walking in New York City and I see a Michigan State hat, I guarantee he or she went to Michigan State. If I’m walking in New York City and I see a Michigan hat, I’m not so sure — that’s the difference. Michigan is a brand that people buy because it’s Michigan or they know someone who went to Michigan. It’s not the same with Michigan State.”

This is pretty incredible. You have your Texas', Ohio State's, Michigan's, and Alabama's of the world and then you really have everyone else.

I really hope that the Rutgers athletic department can take the big next step and take advantage of all the new positive marketing points that Rutgers has gained in the past decade.

Some examples are all of the alumni Rutgers players we have in the NFL now, the fact that we are in the best conference in country, the fact that our first BIG10 win was against the "winning-est" college football program in history, our being ranked the 32nd or 33rd best university IN THE WORLD, etc.

We can hopefully find a way to harness all of those positives and use them to increase our presence in the culture and start having people buy Rutgers gear not just because you went to Rutgers, but just because you want to wear Rutgers products because of Rutgers successes.

Rutgers wins > Michigan's wins since 2007. Michigan's brand is a losing one. They lost to Rutgers football and NJIT bball in the same year. Go home Michigan, your time is done.
But yes, OP is right though. I just like to rant about hating Umich.

The problem that this creates is one where the biggest advertisers have a vested interest in the status quo. Bowl Committees want to please advertisers and the broadcasters have that same vested interest. Which means the broadcasters' employees will act in the best interests of their employers. End result is a propaganda campaign in support of the top dogs.. the traditional powers... which helps convince recruits to go to those places.. which helps them remain at the top.

The money is a problem.. but it is what we're all after.. right?

That's the main reason why the P5 came up with a "Playoff Committee" (super majority have some tie to a P5 team and/or conf), as the more eyeballs that watch the Football Final 4...the more they can charge advertisers in future years for ad spots..so yes, it does benefit the College Football Playoff, TV Network and even advertisers (even if they pay higher rates...more eyeballs are tuning in).

It shouldn't have been a surprise that 2 somewhat small private schools (TCU and Baylor) didn't make the Final 4 last year...as the Committee will do everything it can to get as many "blue blood" programs in the Final 4 because that is where the $$$$ come from.
