Michigan 21-0 over BYU so far, They will be up there with Ohio State within 2-3 years. There is no doubt Harbaugh can coach for those doubters.

I've been saying that but some think he's just over hyped. I agree that he is hyped but I think he deserves it for the most part. He's not some flash in pan. He's proven it over and over. I still don't assume they're going to have a great season but I think he's going to get it done there. I said in that Utah game they looked bad on O but I saw signs of that physical Standford type team emerging. What a physical run by their RB on that TD. BYU is no slouch when it comes to physicality either. If he finds a better qb, they will be on their way unfortunately for us.

28-0 still in the second half. He had the players since Hoke was a very good recruiter but he didn't know how to coach. A lot of 4 stars on the team not that it means anything,

Yea Hoke recruited well by the rankings and he wasn't a good coach. But unless you follow the team, it's hard to say who's good, who's bad, are they over rated, was it the coaching, combination of both? Did they not recruit any qbs during Hoke's tenure? They could use one. Ruddock is developing but I think he's still got his deficiencies. If a good one was on the roster I don't think Harbaugh would have gone to him.

So it's hard to know how much of a factor was coaching and how much was over rated recruiting unless you follow them closely. All I had confidence in is that he would get them better and competing for B10 titles. When that happens, who knows?

Sucks for us because it's just another top flight coach to contend with in the division.

oh man, they are going to DESTROY us.

but amazingly you'd have some posters here still arguing Flood >= Harbaugh

So do posters STILL think this is a "toss-up"?? Never was (even healthy and pre suspensions).

The only thing that makes me happy is knowing Ohio State, Michigan State and Michigan will always be ahead of a Penn State.

The Big Ten is stronger than last year with Ohio State, Michigan State, NW, Wisconsin and Michigan ranked next week.

Has anyone really said that flood is better than JH? I haven't seen it but if it's true that's one of the funniest things ever said on this board.

No, but a few fans thought we can beat Michigan this year pre season. One of the TV Analyst believes Michigan will upset either Ohio State or Michigan State. It's a good possibility since Michigan appears to get better each game. They will end up in the Top 15 by year end.

Harbaugh is the real deal., anyone who doesn't think so, knows nothing at all about football.

It also goes to show what an upgrade in coaching staff can have on what is basically the same team as last year.

It'll take a few years, but Harbaugh should be able to get Michigan back to being a serious perennial contender for B1G championships...

... I hope!

On another note, Rashan Gary and his mother are at Michigan this weekend for an official visit. This is his third visit to Michigan, and the second with his mother. It was nice to have such a decisive win over BYU on Gary's official visit, but I think they are leaning towards the SEC. Gary's mom says she really likes the southern culture and the hospitality shown in the SEC where almost everyone she meets says "yes ma'am and no ma'am".

She sounds like a good mom, and is being very thorough in evaluating schools.

GO BLUE!

Not just Harbaugh. They were on here talkin down on Jim Mora jr and Ucla too.. Like they also were beneath us ..It's befuddling lol

Some felt Harbaugh didnt have class like Flood as if that mattered and would never switch.

Yes but does Jim Harbaugh meet Dance Appreciation professors in East Lansing....that's what sells our fans, that integrity, you know?

Why would Harbaugh meet with professors at Michigan State's campus? Regardless Harbaugh will right the ship but he's going back to the League before his first recruiting class graduates. If Michigan is back playing well and he gets a decent offer from the NFL he's gone.

Maybe he does maybe he doesn't I don't know but who cares as long as he's improved the situation. Coaches can leave, even occasionally from the "name" programs, so be it. If he leaves maybe he also leaves behind another David Shaw type who kept things rolling for the most part at Stanford.

I believe the joke is that Flood met the professor in Princeton.

Some curious factoids - teams that won championships share elite recruiting - and a first term coach who wins fast.

"Since the turn of the century, coaches who win big also tend to win fast, often as early as Year 2. Bob Stoops, for example, took over at Oklahoma in 1999 and hoisted the crystal ball in 2000. Jim Tressel arrived at Ohio State in 2001 and won the championship in 2002. Urban Meyer landed at Florida in 2005 and brought back a championship in 2006. Gene Chizik was met with derision before his first season at Auburn, in 2009, and in 2010 he brought the Tigers’ 53-year championship drought to an end.

Elsewhere, if Year 2 didn’t yield a championship, it often served as a catalyst for one in Year 3 or Year 4. Nick Saban started at LSU in 2000; in 2001, he led the Tigers to their first SEC crown in more than a decade, and in 2003 to their first national championship in more than four decades. Pete Carroll was USC’s fourth or fifth choice to take over a foundering ship in 2001; the Trojans finished in the top five in 2002, and went on to win back-to-back national titles in 2003 (AP) and 2004 (BCS). Les Miles followed Saban at LSU in 2005; in 2006, he took the Tigers back to the BCS, and he claimed his own championship in 2007. Saban, fresh from an abbreviated stint in the NFL, touched down in Alabama in 2007; in 2008, he led the Tide to a 12-0 regular season, and he earned his statue outside Bryant-Denny Stadium with a national championship in 2009. Saban’s old assistant Jimbo Fisher needed three years to return Florida State to a BCS game and four to claim a national title, in 2013. After winning its first 24 games under Meyer, Ohio State continued the trend in 2014 by winning a championship in his third year. The era of the “Five-Year Plan” is long gone: These days, it’s all about riding the momentum of the initial wave."

Michigan is looking to fit the above trend. They've had the players and now they have the coach. Doubt Michigan needs a 5 and 10 yr plan.

So what you're telling me is that when we bring in a new coach next year, we'll win a title within 4 seasons?

I don't think anyone ever said Flood was a better coach than Harbaugh. I think a lot of people, myself included, don't like Harbaugh because...well...he is a massive a-hole. There is little doubt he is a good coach.

It would be nice if Rutgers fans didn't try to turn everything into a negative attack on other Rutgers fans. Especially with straw man arguments. But I guess that is what we are stuck with until there is a regime change.

Michigan was never on a 5yr+ plan. I can't think of many schools that are frankly. Strong may get booted by year 2. I was more like it'll probably be by year 3 at the latest where he'll have them contending for the B10. Could be sooner who knows. I still don't know how they'll do the rest of the year. I think their qb could still be an achilles heel for them and I don't know what their depth is after Smith (had a foot injury yesterday) but I've always thought he'd get them contending for the B10 sooner rather than later.

That's the MO of some posters. "I told you so, you were wrong!!!" Even with a strawman. Makes them feel good about themselves, I guess.

All those teams had a lot of 4 stars recruits. Rutgers with their Great recruiting class with all those hidden gems will need at best 7-10 years to be competitive in the Top Tier of the Big Ten. To stop battling for the bottom of the Big Ten, we will need at least 3 years.

The people that don't like Harbaugh are those fans that don't have him coaching their football team. Why the negative personal attacks, the guy has had a stellar career and his success is verified by checking the records. Get real, most teams in America would love to have the guy as their hc, including Rutgers.

Without question there were several posters who more or less said "I'd rather have Flood than Harbaugh" and, let's face it, there have been endless threads ripping the guy. Talk about looking foolish. Ripping a guy who, well, has been pretty damn successful at both levels of coaching.

I'd take Harbaugh over Flood any day of the week, but we can cross him off our list with 150% certainty that Jim Harbaugh would never coach at Rutgers, so it is a useless discussion to have. That said, Harbaugh is a bit of an oddball, but I would take an oddball who is a big winner and a good person (not a slime) over a normal person who is not a big winner and a good person. Also, nothing wrong with poking a little fun at the guy. I'm sure he can take it and does not care what we on Scarlet Nation say.

AND lucky RU gets to play them ALL except for the Wildcats.
