Minnesota Game

Got tickets today from RU ticket office. Any one going and also in Section 203?

Leaving the 19th with the RV. Got tickets on stubhub. Section 110 Row 16. Tickets arrived long time ago and came with a parking pass for the SKI-U-MAH lot which my understanding is right next to the stadium. Another RV unfriendly school, have to park out in the State Fair Grounds, and take a commuter bus to the stadium. We tow a convertible mini with us so we plan on putting the top down, loading our tent, chairs and cooler in the back and go tailgate in the SKI-U-MAN lot. Just for fun we are going to tell the natives that we drove out from nj in it! Tent has big block R's on it for anyone who wants to join us. Tour Minny for a couple of days and then out to Rushmore.

Did this trip a few years ago and had a great time despite a PSU loss, so I'm confident anyone going will enjoy themselves.

Anything that serves alcohol at 8am to 10am :)

I have a feeling we may have to pregame at the hotel

Any suggestions for bars around the stadium or in Downtown?

There's a Buffalo Wild Wings near the stadium that had a big outdoor party, if I remember correctly, but the spot for more local flavor would be Stub & Herb's. It will be crowded and loud, but it was great post-game. Ended up meeting a couple of Minnesota grads who brought us back to their tailgate for brats and met them out at bars that night.

In terms of away from campus, there are a number of good breweries in Minneapolis that I can recommend if you're into that sort of thing. The night before the game we ate at The Butcher & The Boar. Get the smoked beef long rib.

Thanks, Stub & Herb's and The Butcher & the Boar are on my list. When it comes to breweries I've heard that Surly is really good (right off of campus)...and I've read up on a few around downtown, like Town Hall Brewery.

Surley is awesome as is Butcher and the Boar. Never been to the others.

The second Surly location wasn't yet open when we were out there. I'd certainly recommend their beers, however. It would be the spot to hit if you can only do one.

As far as some of the other options: You can easily do a walking tour of a few in the Northeast section of the city. We hit 612brew, Indeed and Dangerous Man on Friday night. The second two, especially, are worth a stop, and it looks like more have opened in that area since our trip.

I'll be in 203 as well, row 26. Wild vs. Leafs on Thursday, Gophers hockey vs. St. Cloud State on Friday, and Rutgers football vs. Minnesota on Saturday, gonna be a fun trip!

As a craft beer junkie, I would highly recommend going to Surly Brewery for anyone going out to Minnesota. One of the top breweries in the Midwest which is saying something with the craft beer heavyweights out that way. Also try to get the Juicy Lucy burger which is a TC staple. It is two burger patties with the cheese in the middle which gushes out when you take a bite.

Definitely hitting Surly, but was doing some research and I think we're going to try a six brewery self guided walking tour in Northeast Minny: Indeed, Bauhaus, 612 Brew, Able, Social Cider Werks and Dangerous Man. First five all seem ridiculously close to one another so seemed like a logical decision for a Thursday or Friday afternoon ha

Will be doing the same. Landing early Friday AM plan on hitting dangerous man town hall, 612, surly and whenever else we stumble to.

Any good places to eat that are near the stadium or can be gotten to easily via public transit? We're staying at The Commons, right near the stadium, with no car.

It's the eastern edge of the campus and near the stadium...there are a lot of places to eat nearby, but they're mostly the cheap and easy kind of food you'd expect near a campus. BW3, Applebees, Chipotle, Starbucks etc. Also a lot of dive/sports bars like Stub and Herbs.

203 Row 26. Having been to Minneapolis before, I'd recommend a place called "The Blue Door" Specialty is what the locals call a 'juicy lucy', stuffed burger.

Nice, we are in the same row. Any recommendation on a bar that will be open the morning of the game?

Just bought tickets to the hockey game (home opener) against St. Cloud State on Friday night. Heard that's a cool experience to see a game on campus

You can get on the rail line (Green Line ) that runs east/west through campus and get off one stop (Prospect Park) east of the Stadium. If you walk about four blocks NE into an industrial park, you will be at the Surly Brewery and giant taproom. This trip will not be a disappointment.

Yes Sir. Open end of the stadium has beer stands/ on the plaza.

Back in 2013 there was a "Beer Garden" in the open end under the large scoreboard, plus a big corral outside you could stop out to. Since 2014 they have expanded beer to all over the stadium, but now they mainly sell 16 oz cans, and I like the 2013 tap system better. You can still get the Surly taps in the open end at one stand.

The best bet for beer is to buy the 16 oz Summit EPA, the original local craft beer, since it is the same price as the crap beers. Do not be fooled and settle for the 12 oz Summit they somehow are still selling in a few locations for the same price. Some of the locations take cards, and some are all cash. The beer/ wine concessions on the upper open concourse behind where the visitor seats (201-204) are tend to be cash only.

The BWW in the old firehouse next to the stadium is OK for pregame, as are Sally's and a few other places over on Washington Ave. They have a big set up inside the Alumni Center, located on the site of original stadium, demolished in 1992, right across the street to the SW. I'd go in there for a while for sure. They have a nice giant brick arch and wall from the old stadium rebuilt inside. The big open space has some full bar areas and some decent pregame breakfast options. The Commons Hotel is right behind this space as well.

You can go to any bar on Washington Avenue (Stadium Village) near the Commons Hotel by at least 8 or 9 AM. (Sally's, Bar Luchedor, Stub-Herbs, 2 Commons Hotel Bars, Players Sports Lounge, Buffalo Wild Wings, a few Asian places with Liquor) If you head over to "Dinkytown" (6 blocks W/ NW on 4th Street beyond the BB, Hockey arenas, you will find several more places that will be open. I'd recommend The Library or the Blarney Pub. Post Game there will be a few more places open over there.

If this were a mid afternoon game there would be better options.

The Commons Hotel is right next to the Green Line train platform, so you can get to downtown Minneapolis in about 8 minutes ($1.75).

There are five downtown stops, as well as a "west bank" stop (of the Campus) just over the river. There are many places at each stop (the first stop by the Vikings Stadium has not yet filled in so I'd skip that one for bar/ restaurant searching). I'd recommend the Nicollet Mall stop, or the Hennepin Ave stop. If you get off of either and walk south you will find many places on Friday or Saturday night to chose from. You could also get off at the last stop at Target field and walk a couple of blocks North to Washington Avenue in the North Loop area and find many interesting places there as well.

You probably can find pretty decent food in Minneapolis unless you are looking for decent Italian, or classic Philly/ Chicago "street" food that in my opinion is lacking here. There are a lot of food trucks that are trying to improve the situation, but try finding a hole in the wall place with a great beef sandwich, Cheesesteak, or big/ cheap Carne Asada Taco,..... good luck.

Awesome, thanks! Where do we go for the best Juicy Lucy near the stadium/arena in your opinion? If the place has craft beer, that is also a plus.

Thanks for all the input! First visit to Minneapolis (Vikings fan here, too bad they aren't playing at home on Sunday).

Staying at The Commons, getting in late on Friday night (11 pm), and going to the official RU tailgate that starts at 8am. After the game (Row 27, Section 203), maybe a nap (hey, getting old). Then it sounds like Surly is a must go-to for lunch/dinner? Also saw a place on DDD called Kramarczuk's Sausage Company that looked interesting. Or off on the green line to checkout downtown..... Need a good breakfast place prior to flying back Sunday afternoon.....

Take a cab or uber to surly. From your hotel should cost like $5 and will save you a longish (but doable) walk. If you walk, you will wonder why you didn't just take a cab.
