Mohammed Sanu being pursued by the N.Y. Giants

It's Mohamed with one m.

Good for Sanu. Hope he gets big $$$$.

Here's a link from a Bengals Blog:

There are a multitude of other potential options at the receiver position, where the Giants are prioritizing finding a Robin to go with their Batman (Odell Beckham, Jr.), but few fit the bill as well as Sanu. The Bengals, his current employers, have never made a real concerted effort to retain him and they have a slew of potential free agents to sort through themselves as they try to keep their many starters who are set to hit the market (including Marvin Jones, another receiver of theirs who will do quite well in free agency himself). But with Victor Cruz's career in jeopardy and the Giants needing a presence in the slot and on the outside, Sanu ranks high for them.

Sanu thrived as the top guy for the Bengals a few years back when A.J. Green missed a chunk of time. He would already fit in the offense the Giants run and while he will hardly be the only receiver they reach out to as soon as NFL rules allow, he will be someone very much on their radar.

Adding Sanu at say, $5M a year, to compliment OBJ would help further open up an offense that, let's face it, even with Wilkerson anchoring on the other side of the ball is going to need plenty of scoring support to make the team competitive while the defense is being reconstructed.

I hope the G-men sign Sanu. With guys like Cruz and Randle he will need to earn his snaps as the #2 or #3 guy.

Have a feeling Cruz is done and evidently so do the Giants - he was week to week for 17 weeks last year...kept hearing he will be back next week - never happened.

A few weeks ago, the S/L had a sports page cover article on the positions that the Giants would likely seek to strengthen themselves this off season in the free agent market. The article mentioned Sanu as a strong possibility (and good fit) with the Giants.

Randle's a FA. I wouldn't count on him being back. Lots of physical talent but mentally could never get on the same page with Eli.

Would love to see the NYG sign Sanu. He's exactly what they need at WR. Then maybe spend a 4th or 5th Rd draft pick on a developmental WR that can take the top off of a defense.

Giants took Rueben Randle when they could have selected Sanu. I guess Randle's "measurables" were better. That's turned out to be arguably a good decision given Randle's production

I did not realize they passed on Sanu for Randle. Arguably, Randle had a better profile coming out of college too. On their stats for four seasons:
G S Tgt Rec Yds Y/C TD
Randle 64 33 327 188 2644 14.1 20
Sanu 57 34 249 152 1793 11.8 11

They are not that far off from each other, the difference being Sanu has been targeted less than Randle. Sanu adds another dimension in rushing and as QB-he has 2 more rushing TDs, and he is 5/5 on pass completions.

In the comments to the link I posted above, some fans wanted him to stay, but others were saying he was not that productive. But that was mostly because AJ Green has been targeted nearly 600 times over the last 4 years.

They have to hit FA hard this year. The roster is so depleted that it would take years of excellent drafting to plug the holes.

They first need to cut a bunch first to create cap space.

Well, while I don't like the gMen it would be nice seeing him on TV more often. Maybe bring back the Wildcat.

You do realize that they have 58 million in cap space
4th highest in the NFL and have already cut Schwartz and Beatty

Cowboys should bring him in to replace Terrence Williams. Need more Rutgers players in Big D

Don't you want Mo to win a Super Bowl? Keep him out of The D where Romo and Manziel would not be throwing him the ball.

Chris Simms has Mo as the #2 free agent WR in a weak WR free agent class, behind only Jeffrey who may get franchised anyway. Could be nice payday for Mo.

Seems like a good time for Sanu to be a free agent. Remember the new HC for Cleveland coached with the Bengals. Their WR situation is horrible. I can see them targeting one or both of the Bengals FA WRs.
