The kid plays his ass off and gets better and better. He follows misses, plays great defense and makes key shots. I just appreciate his role on this team. He’s a terrific basketball talent and so glad we have him.

The way you get kids to buy in on defense like Pike has done is you make certain they are free to get up shots on offense. We have 5 guys who get up 7+ shots per game. And another three who get up 6+. Pike won't yank you for taking a bad shot. That goes a long way to getting you to give 110% on defense.

I remember Corey talking about Pikiell and how he never focused on defense or studied film and how much better he got because of that. Montez feeds off his defense and turns it into offense. I now see why he was. 4 star. It’s the little things and he’s putting it all together. He a relentless rebounder as well.
I love Montez but he needs to stop forcing things inside and he needs to learn to pass the ball out when he’s covered under the basket

He was key on defense. When Jones got hot he turned it up a notch and faceguarded the shit out of him.

Montez is the kind of athletic glue guy that every really good team has. Plays his ass off every game, gives 100% on the defensive end, crashes the boards and unselfishly takes what is given to him on the offensive end. Nice to see is outside shot improving too.
Montez was brutal to start this game but ecame a bulldog as it went along. Caleb had a rough game but came up with numerous big rebounds. Players making key plays when they struggle earlier in the game is a sign of maturity. We also have the depth where we can afford not everyone having their best games. It's such a TEAM
